What is it I need but can't locate? What's wrong with my spirit this year? The inward turned ice of depression, Keeps me from all holiday cheer. I've dutifully baked and gone shopping. I've wrapped...

He was of good cheer, as though he'd had a beer, but it was clear as he made a jeer, he'd avoid any spear that came near. He sauntered along in low gear, his head swiveling as if it was...

A short story by Helen Austin. Home for Christmas “Oh no, it is blizzarding? If it keeps this up, we won’t be able to go home for Christmas,” wailed Anne, a young housewife, as she stared out the window at the freezing snow blowing across the barren prairie of northern Montana. “Mommy is this cookie pretty?” asked her enthusiastic little girl as she held up a piece of cookie dough slightly resembling a bell. “Oh, that IS pretty,” answered her mother, trying to show interest in spite of the...

Halfway through the fourth and final month of the hunting season, I’m overwhelmed with a feeling of dread.
