Well, it was a guaranteed winner! Where else could little wee ones find a delicate pancake breakfast feast like the one provided at the GN Lodge Room on Saturday, Dec. 14th? About 75 kids showed up and chose to partake in the selection of toppings for pancakes such as caramel, strawberry and maple syrup to be topped with a large array of sprinkles, whip cream and chocolate chips! Tom LaBrie, owner of the GN, said he and his crew served 175 of those flapjack pancakes, so it might be safe to presu...

  • Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, December 18

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Dec 18, 2024

There will be Christmas Eve service at 4 p.m. at the Whitewater Lutheran Church. Congratulations to the wrestlers. We have girls from Whitewater competing. Sports are emphasized here on the Hi-Line. Ice skating and sledding were the sports when I grew up. We’d sled down the hills. However the snow and the ice had to be plentiful. We used Whitewater Creek. Now there isn’t enough water in the creek for ice skating. In the late 1940’s or 1950’s there was a cave and after skating we’d go to this cav...

  • Loring/Affinity News for Wednesday, December 18, 2024

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Dec 18, 2024

Every place is festive with lights twinkling, even though there is a few miles between the farms! Loring Lutheran Church will be celebrating Jesus’s birth on Christmas Eve with a candle lit service at 5:30. No Sunday service until 2025! At this time of year I usually reflect on my life and what’s happened in the last year. This year I’m thankful for basically good health. I had no hospital stays, no falls and no car accidents. My sight is my most irritating loss, but I can still see. I play...

  • Hunting With a Loaner

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Dec 18, 2024

The transition to one dog is easier than I thought it would be. For years we’ve been a multiple-dog family. We had as many as four at one time. Now it’s just Dot. When I’m hunting it’s no longer a case of which dog to watch or follow, there’s only one. Also, the dog food bill dropped precipitously, and there’s less recycled dog food to pick up in the yard. I fear, however, that I’m following in the footsteps of my friend E-dub, who’s given up bird dogs completely. He still has a rescue mutt fro...

  • If I Could I Would...

    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Dec 18, 2024

I often get asked if we are going anywhere for Christmas. If only. Unfortunately, I don’t even have the courage to attempt leaving the state during the holiday season. I would love to see my family and my hometown, but the possibility of flight delays, flight cancellations, and road closures due to winter weather always shuts that thinking down. I guess I should mention that things get pretty busy at the paper this time of year. I am thankful that we welcomed Sara to the staff. The PCN crew (...

  • The Real Magic of Christmas

They are off and running. Everywhere! “They” is a collection of various nouns. Let’s start off with the basketball and wrestling teams! Now with a weekend under the belts or at least out of the way, the nerves can begin to settle down and the jitters can dash away. Unless you’re a little kid with your gallant pageant pending. For some, this is their first, for some it is their last. Yeah, and some are glad when it will be over. Kids, that is…not teachers! They are waiting for the holiday break all together! How long has it been since you viewe...
