  • Builder's Club displays the Spirit of Christmas

    Kelly Cederberg, For the PCN|Dec 16, 2020

Builders club members used some of their funds to shop for local children in need this holiday season. They purchased gifts for the Toy-For-Tots drive, and they each chose a child to shop for from the Youth Dynamic Tree at Studio Stiles. The students shopped at the local businesses to fill the child's wish list. They loved shopping for the children and said that it "felt like it warmed their hearts" and that they wished that they could see the looks on the children's faces when they open the...

  • Walleyes Unlimited announces raffle winners

    Krista Fahlgren, PCN Editor|Dec 16, 2020

Six months ago, the future Malta Chapter of Walleye’s Unlimited was in peril as it faced the same challenge that many of Malta’s organizations have shared this year: how to reach their fundraising goals and stay afloat without being able to rely on their annual April banquet. Gratefully, as they reorganized, reenergized, and saw some “new blood” take over in leadership roles, the raffle drawings that replaced the annual banquet were successful. The money raised will help the group continue to hold the time-honored events such as Camp Walleye...

  • MHS welcomes back familiar faces

    Krista Fahlgren, PCN Editor|Dec 16, 2020

With the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak affecting both students and staff, the need to fill positions is currently the biggest challenge at Malta Public Schools. At the Malta School Board Meeting held on December 9, 2020, Principal Clark reported that enrollment numbers are holding steady, and changes to planned presentations and celebrations have taken a bit of ingenuity and creative thinking. He noted examples of the changes that were made in order to best serve the students, while keeping both...

Cmdr. Lacy Lodmell, MHS Class of 1997, recently took command of the PCU USS Oregon, a Virginia-class submarine. Lacy is the son of Terry Lodmell and Larry Lodmell of Malta. He and his wife Jessica currently reside in Connecticut with their children, Stella and Sam. Classmate and childhood friend, Nickie...

  • Dodson News for December 16, 2020

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Dec 16, 2020

Due to the Covid 19 and the extreme cold weather we have been having things are pretty well at a stand still. We had a beautiful sunset clear across the western sky on Wednesday the 9th of Dec. The sun is still so low in the sky that we had all colors available but as everyday when it starts to get dark it gets there fast so it did not last long. Friday was very cold and icy--overcast---really dreary. It has stayed cold for several days with a low 11 degrees on Sunday morning. Only eight days...

  • Loring News for December 16, 2020

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Dec 16, 2020

Chilly greetings to you all! The temperature has taken a dive into the teens with lows very close to zero. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg for cold freezing weather, and I'm so thankful I don't have to bundle up to go feed cows! I have seen for myself that the hunters did not get very many deer! I took a drive off the highway and I can't tell you how many deer I saw! I'd estimate about 100-200! Some were white tail and some were mule deer! No moose or elk on this trip! The Loring Wome...

  • Dot's first season was encouraging

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Dec 16, 2020

It’s been a little more than a year ago now that my dog Ruth died of a brain tumor. She wasn’t yet three years old, and had already turned into a wonderful bird dog. She had a good nose, was enthusiastic, and retrieved anything I shot. She was also a sweet dog. I’ve mourned the passing of a lot of dogs, but Ruth’s death was particularly difficult for me. I still don’t understand why. Maybe it was because her passing was so unexpected. Maybe it was because she was going to be my last dog. I’d...

  • Squat til ya ....

    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Dec 16, 2020

Sometimes you can parallel life to lifting weights. Of course, when everyone is watching you just beat your old one rep max, you naturally want to add more weight. Despite the happenings around the world, my little coffee business was doing better than last year, growing; pushing me to the brink. Then a couple of weeks ago, I learned that my long time boss was moving and he asked me how I felt about it. Mark is like a brother to me, so I am bummed that he is gone. Eventually I was approached by...
