  • Lang credits education for success

    Dec 9, 2020

It all started with a great Education. When Malta's Micah Lang, MHS Class of '93 called the PC News desk last week to share some exciting business news, I had a hunch it would be pretty impressive. After all, we were classmates at the very best schools, starting with St. Mary's Parochial and Malta High School. Granted, Lang went onto earn degrees from Gonzaga University and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, but we agreed that it all started at with "the grit" it...

  • Dodson News for December 9, 2020

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Dec 9, 2020

Due to Covid-19 everything is pretty quiet and everyone is pretty much staying away from everyone else. Then with the cold weather to help there is not much visiting or activity in the whole town. Terri Cole and a couple more deliver lunches in from the Center at least twice a week. This is appreciated, especially now when it has been so icy after the slight thaws that we have had. We celebrated Pearl Harbor Day this week to help honor the many brave men who died in the deadly attack in 1941 by...

Sympathy to all who are victims of the C-19 virus, or have lost loved ones to the virus. Several families traveled over Thanksgiving holiday. Ashley Green and children, went to Spearfish, South Dakota to visit her family. The Wisher family took Jana W. to Billings, where she caught a plane to South Carolina for a while. Patti and Steve Young went to Malta to visit family. I spent Thanksgiving with my daughter, Gale Young, in Saco. Challise and Tim Hoff came, too. A real surprise! We had a delici...

  • Construction News for December 9, 2020

    David Veseth, PCN Correspondent|Dec 9, 2020

Workers have been changing things inside of the Westside Sporting Goods Building. When I was at Dairy Queen about two weeks ago Carly Bishop picked me up to take a tour inside of Westside Sporting Goods. It looked different. I remember at one point they had showers but they have taken them out. The old warehouse outside of Stretch's pizza is still standing, but one thing that I heard was that the building may be taken down and a new building may be put in place by Malta Ready Mix. Someone may...

  • This is Montana after all

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Dec 9, 2020

The snow that fell during a blizzard early last month has pretty much disappeared across most of the state. Except here. The streets in town are still icy and a covering of settled, hard snow blankets the landscape. I used to take pride in that distinction when I lived in Cooke City. Early snows there tended to hang around until spring, and folks quickly embraced winter, firing up the snowmobiles and dusting off the skis at first chance. But I no longer live in Cooke, nestled in a mountain valle...

  • 229 years ago, America became... America

Ken Paulson, Guest Columnist with the Montana Newspaper Association|Dec 9, 2020

Today marks a hidden holiday, as uncelebrated as it is unappreciated. It was 229 years ago today that the United States ratified the Bill of Rights, ensuring unprecedented freedom for the people of an emerging nation. Bill of Rights Day has actually been a national holiday since Nov. 28, 1941 when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated Dec. 15 “Bill of Rights Day.” Roosevelt had big plans, envisioning flag-flying and ceremonies nationwide. Roosevelt observed that Adolph Hitler feared “our freedom of speech, press and religion.” Unfortu...

  • Ice recreation season is beginning, anglers and others encouraged to practice safety

Marc Kloker, MT Fish Wildlife & Parks Region 6|Dec 9, 2020

It’s that time of year when ice anglers and other recreationists will be heading out to Montana's “hard” waters for the winter season. Everyone needs to be safe around ice, whether ice fishing, ice skating, hunting, snowmobiling, or just taking a walk. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks reminds folks that safety should be the number one concern during a day out on (or near) the ice. And when on the ice, remember: Anglers and other recreationists should be familiar with the water body they plan...
