Fall and the onslaught of snow and soon Christmas brings out a new kind of spirit for many of us. There will be much planning for holiday festivities and family gatherings. But unfortunately for some those gathering can also be a reminder of a loss of a precious angel who left the circle much too early. It’s all going by too quickly. I worry I’ll miss something. Since Sept. 1 I’ve been hunting more days than not. For the first two weeks of the season the weather remained hot and dry, and I only hunted the first hours of daylight. Most mornings found me in a creek bottom where there was water for the dogs. They flushed sharptail and sage grouse out of the scant cover, and occasionally I managed to hit one. Some mornings the grouse were scarce, and the pheasants and ducks -- not yet in season -- offered shots I couldn’t take. Now that both ar...

The recent storm tore through Phillips County and it destroyed power poles so many residents were left without electricity and had no water. This effected Dodson, Turner, Hogeland, Zortman, Landusky, South Malta and even the City of Malta. The heavy snow and wind not only ruined poles, but also the snow tore down tree branches everywhere. Most have their heat, lights and water back on now. Kids thought it was like camping. Sympathy to all victims of hurricanes and earthquakes also. Puerto Rico...

The North Country Mavericks played their last game for this season at Whitewater gym. The visiting team was the Harlem Wildcats. I was impressed at the skills the girls have! Many long volleys! The junior high is...
