While in Helena at the legislature, I work to pass legislation that encourages good paying jobs and a clean environment. I know that you do not have to choose one over the other. I-186 is proposing to jeopardize those good paying jobs, and possibly the tax dollars that pay to clean up the historical mining problems the proponents are touting. The Montana Legislative Services has said that I-186 has several ambiguous sections and undefined terms and contains conflicting legal standards that would lead to litigation and likely prevent mining....
My wife tells me I’m a very social person. I nod and smile, all the while thinking, “What are you talking about?” The truth is I spend most of my time in the company of dogs. There are many days when the only human being I interact with is my wife. My old hunting partner – both literally and figuratively -- has been a bit under the weather this fall and has yet to come up and chase birds with me. Since the first of September it’s just been me and the dogs, nearly every day, out on the prairie, l...

This week we are traveling to south Phillips County to the town of Leedy. Schyler Leedy had a trading post along the Missouri River. In 1903 Mr. Leedy was appointed postmaster and from that time on the official postmark would read “Leedy”. Schyler received goods by boat from Fort Benton and did a good trade with everyone in the area. Now Leedy was on the north side of the river but he did have customers on the south side of the Missouri also. To help business a small boat was kept bringing customers across the water, so they could shop. And...

Best, who is qualified for the State Class C Cross Country meet...

Ahead of the contest, seniors Jenessa Malmend (escorted by family including parents Travis and Tracy Malmend); Kloie...
The elementary and junior high Jamboree Basketball season got underway in Dodson last Friday as the teams from North Country came to town to take on the Coyote teams. Those in attendance got to see Dodson's new concession stand on display for the first time, featuring great deals, hot food and manned by the trio of Reba Weitz, Chris Sears and Donna Duncan (that should keep this reporter in free popcorn for the foreseeable future, though he will insist on paying his own way.) The first contest...
