All EMS personnel are licensed by their respective states, and report to a Board of Medical Examiners made up of medical professionals. EMR’s, EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics make up this system of prehospital care. EMS services throughout the state of Montana are either a paid service, volunteer service, o...

  • Considering a change

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Oct 14, 2020

I’ve never used electronic collars on my dogs. A whistle always sufficed. But as I begin training what may well be my last bird dog, I’m considering a change. All my friends use electronic collars, and I can’t help but notice that their dogs are a bit more under control than mine. It didn’t used to bother me. I always put more emphasis on enthusiasm for the hunt than any strict protocol. I bend to the dogs’ will as much as they do mine. Last season, however, there were two occasions when my whis...

  • First rodeo for the Bibbs

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Oct 14, 2020

A couple of weeks ago, my family experienced their first rodeo together. I was delivering papers to one of the local gas stations and saw a flyer in the window for a rough stock rodeo. I knew right then and there that it was time to go to a rodeo together. I had taken my oldest son PJ to his first rodeo earlier this year in another town. Though he said that he enjoyed the event, it was a ranch rodeo and it was harder for him to understand. With respect to the sport, I knew that he would enjoy a...

  • Malta construction updates with David Veseth October 14, 2020

    David Veseth, PCN Construction Reporter|Oct 14, 2020

I got to help the Malta Dirt Daubers fix their pumpkins that will go downtown into the barrels. There were 3 pumpkins in a stack and the top one has a face. We made 45 stacked pumpkins with my friend David Miller. I got to watch them pave the Dump Road a week ago and another thing I got to do was break up cement at the house across the street from the PC Hospital. I talked to the workers and they let me break it up because they wanted to haul the cement away. One thing they might be doing in a...

  • Loring News for October 14, 2020

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Oct 14, 2020

Sorry I missed writing my column last week. I had two beautiful blue jays stop in for a few days! It was fun watching them looking for food and trying the suet feeders! Several people worked at the church spiffing up and others worked on the landscaping. Several boulders were rolled in to act as a barrier so the vehicles will stop before running into the well and lawn. I spent a couple of days in Billings last week with David and Brandie, and Debbie Richau. Rocco’s football team played Laurel i...

    Lori Taylor, PC Museum Curator|Oct 14, 2020

St. Paul’s Indian Mission was a topic of discussion at the PC Museum this week. The story of its beginning and continuing story arrived with items from Jay and Lynn Contway. Here is the history as it was presented to us. On May 1, 1886, Reverand Eberschweiler said mass for the first time in the Little Rockies. Father De Smet and two Indians were his companions. Finding a beautiful spot and three log cabins he immediately began plans for St. Paul’s Mission. Construction was slow but steady. In September 1887 the Mission School was opened wit...

  • Yesterday's Phillips County News Memories for October 14, 2020

    Oct 14, 2020

1 years ago October 14, 1920 Mike O'Neil, having made Mitch's Hill to the north bench county on "high" with his Buick car, returned to town and made a couple of bets on the accomplishment. His car failed to perform the second time and Mike was a little short of cash for the next few days. *** Miss Millie Caves, soon to become the bride of Everett Stubblefield, was the guest of honor at a shower given by Mrs. W. Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Oct 14, 2020

The Whitewater Penguin Cross Country team ran at the Tri-Cities Titans XC Invitational on Saturday, October 10, in Hobson. The meet proved to present the team with an unforeseen obstacle, one that Whitewater Head Coach Carly Hammond declined to mention to her team. "The girls were determined to PR," Coach Hammond said. "I declined to tell them that Hobson is over 1,000 ft higher than Whitewater which makes running a lot more challenging if you have not trained in those conditions." Coach...
