A recent spike in Covid-19 cases brings community awareness back to the forefront. Just two short months ago, on Monday, August 16, the Phillips County Health Department was reporting zero active cases. On Monday, September 13, that number was 11, and now, as of Thursday, October 7, it's at 42 active cases. In those two months, Phillips County has had 119 new cases, 10 hospitalizations, and 3 additional deaths. These numbers are not huge when you compare them to some of the higher populated...

Venus was in conjunction with the moon earlier this week. I had several people ask me which planet was so close to the crescent moon in the west! It was Venus, traveling behind the moon and appearing on the other side the next evening. It’s the brightest object in the night sky other than the moon. Somewhere I caught COVID-19. I must say it’s not fun, but luckily it’s a fairly mild case. For me it’s like a head cold, sore throat, cough, stuffy sinuses, and low energy. I pray that you don’t g...
Fall is sure moving up fast----the leaves are falling like snowflakes ---have hauled two loads to the dumps already. It is fun to watch the trees---some shed their leaves so fast while others lose a few and then sit before sending any more down. The temps are getting a little cooler every night too. Bill Henry stopped at his mom's on Friday, moving home from jobs over East. Terri Cole returned home after medical treatment in Billings and visits with some of the kids. Polly Solberg returned home...

Dear Readers, I don't know if any of you are feeling like myself, but I feel like we're on a cliff and they're pushing us over the edge. Our country doesn't look or act like the country we grew up in. I'm tired of it and I think it is time for us to stand up and stop taking it. We need to know what they are teaching in our schools, what our government is passing, taking away, mandating. Our gov't just tried to pass a 3.5 trillion dollar bill, and it's not even that much money that is ludicrous, it's the fine print. They are dismantling our...
Every hunting season is different. This one exceptionally so. Drought, heat, and an infestation of grasshoppers guaranteed it. Since the upland bird season opened in September, I’ve been out more days than not. A lack of birds in my favorite haunts hasn’t kept me home. There’s still plenty to see. I was looking at pictures on my phone yesterday and a shot taken Sept. 1 popped up. Typically the pictures I take on the day of the opener are of my dogs and a dead grouse or two. This was a pictu...
