On August 29, I had a landscaper at my house and one thing he did was give us new grass to cover up the waterline that was put in recently. It was by the alley near our home. I have seen them doing work on the Little White Church and it is looking nice. This year, Short Oil Road is being repaved and is all dirt as of now. I will try to find out when that work will be complete. If you have construction news that you would like for me to report, please call me at 654-2533....

My dog Jem turned 14 this week. He’s the last of my dogs that became acquainted with my father, who passed away nearly 14 years ago. Now the old dog is starting to act like the old man at the end. He moans and groans a lot, sleeps all the time, but always wakes up hungry. He demands to be fed, watered, let in, let out. He voices his unsolicited opinion on everything. However, there’s a big difference between old man and old dog. I never considered having the old man put down. I may have tho...
It has been a weird year for everyone. I typically roll with the punches, so wearing a mask doesn’t affect me. I just try to be fun with it and hope that it keeps someone safe. Whatever. Not a big deal to me. The mass hysteria of COVID-19 makes me uneasy because I don’t even want to catch a simple cold, let alone something that could be worse, but again, I roll with the flow. The racial tension is unnerving to me, but I have lived life knowing that there are possibly people that at the wor...
Who Are We Right Now? Last week, I talked about how the paper should be a reflection of our past, present, and future. I’ve been thinking about how much things have changed here just in the last 15 years. As I was looking up population facts, it occurred to me that I still hadn’t filled out my census. Not only do we need to take the time to fill out the census so we can track our population, but Montana also relies on an accurate Census to provide critical funding for schools, health care, and highways, and it determines the state’s share...
Destination: NORTHEAST MONTANA Mule deer populations are high across the region but vary depending on the hunting district. Overall, post-season surveys showed the region-wide population at 79 percent above average. Winter mortality was likely minimal across the region during the 2019-2020 winter based on observations and reports. Due to increasing quota numbers, there may be surplus tags still available in some districts. Please look at the fwp.mt.gov website for the most up-to-date information on surplus licenses. White-tailed deer densities...
Fall is sneaking in like an insidious habit. The prairie is very dry, which is good for the harvest, but bad for the fire danger! Our temperatures this week saw close to triple digits, but on Sunday the cold front moved in and the temps dropped to 45! And surprise, it rained about a half-inch! Rod and I drove to Billings on Thursday. Near Roundup we saw smoke boiling up over the horizon. A huge fire was burning in the rough terrain south of the town. Several homes and outbuildings were...
