  • Grief Support Group meetings to start this fall

Diane Salsbery and Mary Mangis, Phillips County Mental Health Local Advisory Council|Aug 31, 2022

We will begin again an informal (some discussion and some instruction) grief support group this fall. Our twice (2nd and 4th Wednesdays) a month meetings are to provide support for those who have lost a loved one or have experienced a loss of some kind. By educating ourselves, by sharing our experiences, and learning about grief we are able to better deal with our loss. In our experience, we have heard many reasons why a person won’t consider going to any sort of support group meeting. Some of the reasons we hear are: I am doing fine, I deal w...

  • Former State Senator Points Blame at Governor

    Aug 31, 2022

Dear Editor, I had hoped that this letter would not have to be written but the problem at the nursing home does not seem to be going away. The need to spend county money is all caused by one man, Governor Gianforte. January 2022 I met with the Governor's people and asked for help since Medicaid was only paying about 60% of the cost of keeping residents in the nursing home. The normal rate was 95%. Almost all the department heads in Montana are from out of state, and I thought they had just made a mistake that is easily fixed. They said it could...

  • A new creature added to my list

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Aug 31, 2022

I’ve packed out a lot of critters in my time, elk, moose, deer, antelope, and bear among them. I recently had the opportunity to add another species to that list: hadrosaur. A duck-billed dinosaur that roamed these parts during the Late Cretaceous period, the remains of this one were found just north of town a few years ago. By the time I arrived at the site, the tail section of the hadrosaur was encased in three plaster jackets, ready for transport to a museum in Florida. First, however, t...

  • Be Ye Kind One to Another

    Betty Munson, For the PCN|Aug 31, 2022

Acts of kindness sometimes go unnoticed by the general public. Yet the recipients know and are blessed. I once observed an act of kindness that I have never forgotten-a kind and tenderhearted act. It was at a healing ministry’s conference where the priest leading the conference was praying for the sick. That day’s session was drawing to a close. Many had come forward asking for prayer. And one by one he laid hands on them and prayed for them. People were still standing in line when the priest suddenly announced, “I’m sorry, but I am very ti...
