  • Fairgrounds rocked last Friday

    Mark Foss, PCN Staff|Aug 11, 2021

"How we doing Dodson, Montana?" Asked Reckless Kelly frontman, Willy Braun, as they took the stage Friday night. Getting answers of yells, whistles, and hollers, the Austin, Texas band began their set. With the crowd already getting into the set, Braun said, "This one goes out to all the real American Girls out there." Leading to one of the band's newest songs called American Girls off of the album of the same name. Just saying that brought the already full dance floor in front of the stage up...

  • Dodson News for Wednesday, August 11, 2021

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Aug 11, 2021

It has been staying very hot with no rain. Some rain has been forecast but has not showed up except for one small shower we had earlier. The 106th fair has come and gone. The 4H sale went well and price was pretty good for the kids. The events were enjoyed and people enjoyed visiting others they had not seen for some time. Speaking of which, Polly and I visited with the former Linda Kienenberger (Wolery) formally of Dodson whom I had not seen in (as she remembered it) eleven years. So nice to...

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Aug 11, 2021

This year has been one for the books! After last year with the restrictions on travel, etc. I thought “back to more normal” would be great! I was not thinking about a record year for no moisture and high temperatures then pile on a truckload of grasshoppers! I'm thankful that most of the people I know are well, and managing their lives ok. It's just hard to adjust to a different lifestyle. Wow! We got a gentle rain for about 12 hours on Sunday! It was welcome, Fair goers were enjoying the Ind...

  • We're just too remote for most

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Aug 11, 2021

Years ago, while living in Bozeman, I suggested that people who didn’t farm or ranch should live in town. I even recommended folks looking to move to Montana check out existing housing in the small towns scattered across the state where infrastructure is already in place. This was years before the onslaught of home fixer-upper shows on HGTV, and decades before anyone ever thought about working remotely. Still, it seemed a good way to slow down sprawl, protect agricultural land, and revitalize r...

  • My mother enjoyed her time at the PC Fair!

    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Aug 11, 2021

What a week! For starters, my Chicago Bulls are one of the most improved teams on paper after the first week of NBA Free Agency, the U.S. was pretty dominant at the 2020 Olympic Games, racking up a total of 113 medals, 39 of which were gold. China was second in the medal count, winning a total of 88 (38 gold), and the Phillips County Fair was held in Dodson! Even with such a great week of sports, my biggest highlight was seeing my mother. She came to town during Fair week because I told her how...

    Compiled by Mark Foss|Aug 11, 2021

1 years ago- Wednesday, August 10, 2011 School officials try to minimize the effects of budget cuts in Malta Despite a budget cut of approximately $120,000 required by a failed voted mill levy, students returning to school in the Malta District on August 17 shouldn’t notice much difference. One change is that libraries at the high school/middle school and elementary school will be under the supervision of one librarian now. A second librarian fell victim to budget cuts, as did two other non-tenured teachers. Supt. Kris Kuehn said the d...

    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Aug 11, 2021

The 106th Phillips County Fair Indian Relay was held on Sunday, August 8, and though it was chilly in the grandstands, all went well until the last hour of races. Then it turned epic. A torrential downpour at 5:50 p.m., which shut down the Indian Relay event for a half-hour. Despite the rain falling during the Chariot Races, Women's Mile-Race, Consolation Championship, and Championship races, no one was hurt, resulting in a dramatic conclusion to the P.C. Fair. The Men's Championship race was...
