    The 2017 Phillips County Fair 4-H Beef Show featured 14 in senior showmanship and seven in advanced junior showmanship and featured several blue ribbon steer in Market Beef. The event took place on Friday, August 4, a cool morning that had the steers wanting to move around. The judge leaned towards the showmen who displayed complete control and while the cool weather was nice, it made things unpredictable and gave even past champions a bit of trouble.     The month of July in Phillips County started with a fire in the Zortman and Landusky areas that ended up burning over 11 thousands acres and ended with a small reprieve from extreme heats and a little bit of rain.     The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering technical and financial assistance to agricultural landowners impacted by 2017 wildfires across Montana. At a young age, Gladys moved with her parents and brothers, Edward and Robert, to the Milk River Valley. She graduated from Malta High School, having shared many shenanigans with Lila Licht.     Alena Carol Keller, 58, of Zortman, Mont., passed away on August 5, 2017, peacefully in her sleep. A beloved and loving wife and mother, and lived in Zortman for the last four years.     On Tuesday afternoon Dodson residents found themselves facing a dire situation — no water, due to some malfunction with the system. So dry, so hot, and the fair to start and no water.     The Fairground Grandstands were pretty full for the Phillips County Nile Sanctioned Ranch Rodeo last Sunday, August 6 at 1 p.m. The rodeo featured eight teams vying to win their spot in the Nile, an event set to take place on Saturday, August 14.
