  • Malta High School adds two new sports

    The Malta School Board approved the addition of two sports to the athletic program during their regular meeting on July 14. Boys Cross Country and Girls Wrestling were approved by unanimous vote. Both sports are sanctioned by the Montana High School Association. Boys Cross Country will take place in the fall of the year following the same season dates as Girls Cross Country.     The Malta City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 13, in City Hall at 5:00 PM. The council started off by approving the minutes of the last meeting, the agenda for the nights’ meeting, reviewed the audit committee for payment of claims and approved the June 2021 payroll. Public Works Director Jim Truelove gave his report to the council. Truelove said there has only been one dig since the last meeting, but there will be a couple more coming up.     It was a hot weekend in Malta with the temps reaching triple digits on both days, but that didn't stop the race enthusiasts from speeding down the track at the Hi-Line Drag Strip. Even though the borders aren't open yet so that our Canadian friends can come and join in the fun, there was a good number of cars on the track this weekend. 61 cars on Saturday, and 56 on Sunday.     The Malta Swim Team has had a busy week to go with an already busy summer. Last Wednesday, the team held a Swim-A-Thon, raising over $5,000 to help with the costs of running the team. The event featured music, alumni, and 200 laps that were swam by Malta Swim team members from the past and present.
