After the damage done by the high wind storm on April 5 and 6 of this year, the question of will there be any grandstand events this year at the 107th Phillips Count Fair has been answered. Yes!! The Friday night concert, Saturday derby/AMX races, and the Sunday Indian Relays and chariot races will all be held. PC Fair board member, Eric Wilke, told the PC News that the upper level of the grandstands will not be used. They have been considered unsafe. "We will be able to use the lower section of...

Since his letter, Murray said that HLRC has started its change from a CMS (Center for Medicare &...

This first week of summer has been great! Some warm days, some cooler days, mostly windy days, a smattering of rain. The wildlife is amazing! Baby antelope, deer, and birds, many porcupines on the highway traveling to another tree. I was driving to town on Monday when I saw something cross the road. I stopped close to where it went in the ditch and it was a badger, just sitting on a pile of dirt by a hole, looking at me. It went in the hole and came back up, back in and a skunk came out! That...

They sure help keep the "west side looking better," Mr. Skunk was found again visiting around the west side or is it, Mrs. Skunk since there were three little babies there too? The dog-catchers should be able to trap some of them. Roger and Jackie Henry were visiting at his mom's, Dora’s, from Salem, I...

Last Friday, the United States Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, which previously protected a woman’s choice to abort an unborn embryo or fetus. The decision resulted from a 5-4 ruling in the conclusion of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, No. 19-1392. The decision will allow states to make individual decisions on the lawfulness of abortion. Several states have already set in place laws that were triggered by the decision, while as of now, Montana has legal abortion services available until the Montana S...
Dear Editor and Readers, Transformation is an interesting word. According to Merriam Webster’s Online Dictionary, its definition is 1) to change in composition or structure, 2) to change the outward form or appearance of, or 3) to change in character or condition. When President Obama said “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America,” what was he referring to? That’s a big question, but not a difficult one to answer. To some, the transformation would seem that he wanted to ruin the country, that Obama s...
The sign read “Caution: Water over road,” a warning that filled me with dread considering we were in a car with only a couple of inches of clearance. During a visit to Flathead Lake last week I’d awoken on the morning of our departure to a steady downpour. It was a bit unsettling. After years of drought, I’d become more comfortable with rumors of rain than the real stuff. Now it was pouring, and I was beginning to question our choice of vehicle: Barb’s Mini Cooper convertible. Instead of taking...
