Last Saturday, June 20, the Malta Barrel Racing Summer Series held their third weekend. The races were held at the Trafton Rodeo Arena. The Summer Series is free admission and is set to hold it's next event on Saturday, June 27, starting at noon. The event had 70 racers in the Open, Youth, and Men's events. Malta Parks and Recreation hosted it's second annual Malta Soccer Camp instructed by local MHS senior Kendrik Wright. The three-day camp started on Tuesday, June 16, and concluded on Thursday, June 18. The camp featured children ages four to 14. "It's pretty fun teaching the campers," Wright told the PCN. Happy summer! The longest amount of daylight was on Saturday with the first full day of summer on Sunday! Both days the sunrises and sunsets were awesome! Just enough clouds to give us an interesting scene. I hope that all the fathers had a great day, fishing, boating, or just relaxing! Our community picnic was held in the Loring Hall since it was wet on the picnic ground. We had a nice crowd. Lu Besel came over to paint at Dixie Stordahl's. We have been having rains almost every day or two over the last week. The overnight temperatures have been very cool for this time of year. It certainly has been uncertain and different weather. It is too bad that the planned all school reunion has been cancelled but with the Covid 19 and more outbreaks all the time it is probably for the best. The Montana Farm Bureau is a strong supporter of agricultural education and was instrumental in rejuvenating Montana’s Ag in the Classroom Foundation. Because of COVID-19 social distancing mandates issued by the State of Utah, the original summit was cancelled but an online conference has been developed as a way to make up for the cancelled event. Bear Paw Development Corporation was recently awarded $600,000 in federal funds by the U.S. Economic Development Administration to capitalize a new revolving loan fund that will be available for businesses and prospective entrepreneurs in the organization’s five-county region of northern Montana. Over the last few weeks, the Trafton Park Rodeo Arena has seen plenty of action over the month of June, and the arena is set to host the 2020 Malta NRA Rodeo, an event that welcomes rodeoers within a 200-mile radius. The NRA stands for National Rodeo Association, which holds rodeos throughout Montana. The NRA welcomes riders from Montana and part of Wyoming. The annual Malta Shrine Club/Knights of Columbus picnic was held recently on a cool beautiful evening at Trafton Park. Since the Montana East West Shrine football game was cancelled due to COVID19 The Malta Shrine Club took this opportunity to recognize player Tanner Smith and Coach Nick Oxarart and their families for being chosen to represent Malta.
