  • Bringing jobs back to the Treasure State

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jun 17, 2015

If you are from Montana, reading this outside Montana, Greg Gianforte wants you to move back to Montana …and bring your job with you. Twenty years ago, Gianforte and his wife, Jan, moved the family to Montana and started a small business out of a spare bedroom in their home in Bozeman. It was 20-years later that the Gianfortes sold the business to Oracle for almost $2 billion, but not before turning the tech company into a business boasting 1,100 jobs – half of those in Bozeman making the firm the largest commercial employer in city -- wit... Full story

  • Couldn't forget you if we tried

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Jun 17, 2015

Dogs pass quickly through our lives and then hang around forever. My daughter Audrey recently had to put down her family’s yellow Labrador Grace. She was a sweet dog, who in her 13 years saw the family grow to double figures. She was there in the background every time Audrey brought another baby home. She never growled, bit or snapped at any of the tiny folk who tugged on her ears or grabbed her tail. Grace was also my father’s last dog. He lived with my daughter and son-in-law Aaron for a yea...

  • Unhappy with policy changes at the PCN

    Jun 17, 2015

Dear Editor, I am writing to say that Bonnie and Curtis Starr deserve praise in the way they handled obituaries and death notices in the Phillips County News. They were always willing to make accommodations as best they could even as late a 5 p.m. Tuesday so that families and friends were able to read it in the Wednesday newspaper. The new owners of the PCN make no accommodations what so ever if they do not have it by Monday at noon it will not be on the obit page and if it is received at noon on Tuesday it will not be in that week’s paper a...

  • I have a day job, I think I will keep it

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jun 17, 2015

Growing up I watched my quota of “professional” wrestling. I was a fan of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Hulk Hogan and other entertainers. There was a point where it dawned on me that the “sport” wasn’t as real as advertised. Years later in college a few buddies of mine introduced me to the world of Mixed Martial Arts and UFC. I loved it. There was something neat about fighters training their hardest and giving it all in a cage match. Many people see the sport and think it is barbaric. I ca...

  • Dealing with a vacation hangover via TV and Facebook

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jun 17, 2015

On Sunday I lounged around in my complementary Disneyland Hotel robe staring at the television screen trying to cure myself of my vacation hangover. If you have ever been on a vacation in which you do lots of walking and are over-stimulated for the duration of the trip, you know how hard these hangovers are to cure. I spent most of the day watching Sons of Anarchy, quite possibly the dumbest television show ever filmed. It involves the mad capped cappers of a group of Motorcycle gang members too lewd to be lovable and too sappy to take...

Opening the mail…..such a trivial item in one’s day yet the thrill of that unexpected contact, the hope of the million dollar check, the surprise of the unknown awaits each of us. The Montana Historical Society recently opened a brown postage due envelope that amazed and surprised them. The envelope had no return address but held one of the most exciting donations ever received at MHS. 2015 is the 150th Anniversary of MHS, as it was created in 1865, by the Montana Territorial Legislature. And what does this have to do with the env...

    Eldora Henry, PCN|Jun 17, 2015

On Thursday we said good-bye to a bit of Dodson history when the old McLeod store building was demolished by Ready Mix. The building, one of the oldest in Dodson, having been built shortly after that section, Dodson Original Township, was established and recorded as a Town in 1905, was and has been for several years, a hazard and an eyesore on Dodson’s main street. The Town for quite a few years have been trying to get it torn down and finally were able to have it condemned and thru generous d...

Bison are currently designated as both a wildlife species in need of management and a species in need of disease control in Montana. The draft statewide bison conservation and management EIS considers bison restoration some-where in Montana where animals could be managed as a native species.
