She is a 2017 graduate of Malta and a longtime lifeguard and member of the Malta Swim Team, coaching it for two years. "I'm really excited to be back at the pool," said Garfield. "We've got a...

The weather has been very good for a while now, we've had a couple of nice rains and they were forecasting some last night, today, and tomorrow but it hasn't come yet. My nice little guest, Mr. Skunk, was here on my back porch again on Tuesday. Hope I never startle him enough that he sprays, whew. The community was saddened to hear Ruth Flansaas had passed away so soon after her husband. Condolences are sent to all the family. Rumors were out that the Bear's trailer had been sold. Seems to be a...

Sympathy to parents and babies who cannot get formula. Let’s hope they get some soon. Sympathy to Pastor Bob Nagy and family on the loss of his dad Andrew Nagy, who was in his 90’s. My apology for the mistake in last week's Whitewater News. It read; Linda Berg’s family were sorting cattle. It should have read sorting household items. Anyway, hello to Linda’s family and Best Wishes. They are from Canada. Linda’s house will probably go on sale soon. It is very nice and has outbuildings. I heard t...

  • Hoping to get a little batty this summer!

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Jun 15, 2022

I was working in my garden last week when I heard the first mosquito of the season. He buzzed my ear, and in an unsuccessful attempt to squash him I slapped myself upside the head. It will be long pants and long-sleeved shirts for yard work from now until the first frost. I’ve never lived anywhere with the amount of mosquitos we have here in Malta. Last week the insecticide spray truck began making its nightly rounds in an effort to combat the buzzing swarms. I suspect the bloodsuckers will b...
