    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Jun 14, 2023

"This pool has offered me so many opportunities...I wouldn't be who I am today without the pool being part of my life," stated Malta City Pool manager, Shay Garfield. "The best part of my childhood was coming here and doing swim team!" Shay's love for the pool and crisp clear blue waters waiting to be set into ripple mode with the splash of a kid diving is one that many youngsters look forward to. Some have been anxious and some are starting to wear on their parents' nerves as they, too, like...

  • The Wall Says It All

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Jun 14, 2023

As the underpass is labeled to let people know what town they are in, now the wall says it, too. Kari Rae (Saint Louis), owner of the Villa Theatre, commissioned Cat (Catherine) McIntyre to paint the exterior east wall of the Villa. Originally an artist was set to do the project and there were a couple snags and interruptions in the process and a new artist needed to be located. Cat answered the inquiry about services and abilities and in late April, the project got off the ground. Cat just fini...

  • Fighting for MT Schools

    Jun 14, 2023

Dear Editor, Every parent remembers the day we took our child to their first day of school. It pulls at your heartstrings. Fortunately, in Montana, we knew our children were in good hands. They were entering schools with teachers who were well qualified and supported, learning lessons from curriculum we had approved, and following the rules set by school boards we had elected. As a mom, a teacher and a legislator, I believe that the work Montanans have done for public education provides a pathway for every child to be their best, for every...

  • All 60's Class Reunion Was Great!

    Jun 14, 2023

Dear Editor, The Classes of 1960-1969 held their Class Reunions at the Tin Cup on Friday and Saturday June 2nd and 3rd; Sunday the gathering was at the Sleeping Buffalo. Friday evening the food was outstanding at the Tin Cup and the service was good. But there was no water, no coffee, or other drinks. The only way you could get something to drink was from the bar. There were 240 people attending this event. The acoustics were terrible, the only way you could visit was to scream! It was obvious the bar was out to make money and they did! They...

  • There Was Plenty Of Action On the Water

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Jun 14, 2023

Barb and I spent the morning at the lake catching up on chores. It was too windy to fish. By early afternoon, however, the wind began to lay. “Let’s go fishing,” Barb said. I was in the boat at the dock rigging a couple of rods watching her walk down the hill with an insulated bag of food and drinks when I noticed an ominous bank of clouds approaching. “Let’s wait this out,” I suggested, and we headed up the hill back to the house. By the time we got there big drops of rain had begun to fa...

  • PROUD of the Red, White & Blue

    Kari Hould, Karis Quiet Corner|Jun 14, 2023

As many were beginning to awaken on a fine Wednesday morning, the Volunteer Fire Department was already making their rounds and erecting the colors of our nation – red, white & blue – beneath the silvery stars before the full splendor of the awakening of dawn. Yes, old Glory is being celebrated on Flag Day, June 14th. On the 14th of June in 1777, Second Continental Congress passed a resolution that our flag would be 13 stripes alternating red and white; that the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation. The...

Polly had lots of company on Saturday, as Larry Solberg, Ruby Butterwick, Evan Jones, and Paul Mortenson called on her during the day. Everything is green and grows so fast with all the rains we have been having. That and all the flowers blooming are so nice if only the blooms on the flowers were not destroyed so fast. I have pink and yellow roses and lots...

To the PETA, “Professional and Ethical Treatment of Animals and SPCA, and other organizations. Please stop cruelty to baby calves by branding, dehorning and other operations. There must be other ways. Now there are psychedelic ear tags, so they can be seen at night! (Put brands on ear tags). Also, why dehorn? That is horribly cruel. Why not raise Montana longhorns? Texans made a fortune by raising longhorns. Branding is more of a tradition than a necessity. Here in Whitewater, the weather has b...
