Sympathy to the families of those killed in recent “Hate” shootings. How terrible. We certainly need “gun control”. Back in our area, sympathy to the family and friends of John Flansaas of Loring. School is out in Whitewater and most of the county. However, in Canada, schools don’t get out until June. The graduation ceremony in Whitewater was very nice, also there was only one high school grad, Hannah Hanley! She gave a nice speech, followed by speaker Chad Wisher. There were four 8th-grade grad...
I’ve seen more birds this week, mostly because I was sitting watching the trees and exercising my leg to get stronger! I saw a nuthatch, flycatchers, goldfinches, and, of course, the blackbirds, meadowlarks, and robins! Cindy Clark offered to drive me to physical therapy until I can drive myself. So I had pt and a Doctor's appointment on Thursday. We also went to senior meals in Whitewater on Wednesday. Lynn Hill came down just so she could see me and know that I was doing good! On Sunday I h...
A little less wind for a few days. Wednesday was still warm, but a front moved in on Thursday and the wind was blowing hard early. A wind advisory was in effect until 9 PM. The forecast was for colder weather all weekend. At least the sun was shining on Thursday along with the wind. Graduation was celebrated Friday evening at 6 o’clock. Except for the wind, it was a nice evening for being out. We appreciate Jerry Lankford for his help mowing and working on my mower on Saturday. Sure made a diffe...
Memorial Day. It’s a time for family barbeques, brandings, and parties. Let us not forget that the Federal Holiday is also a time for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who gave their lives while serving the United States. The Federal holiday has been celebrated since 1971. Yet history tells us that as early as the Civil War a holiday was held for the same purpose. It was called Decoration Day. Flowers, tokens, and flags were placed on the graves of those that gave their lives during the Civil War. Have fun and celebrate, but n...
Editor's Note: They have been remodeling inside of the Phillips County Insurance building. Sometime this summer, if they have a grand opening at Phillips County Insurance, I would like to make barbequed meatballs. Before they remodeled Reid Veit's Barber Shop in the Palace Village, there was a shop named Ken Berg's Barber Shop. Elim Lutheran put on a new roof. The store now known as Julia's Junque was named Three Sisters and before that it was MJ's Trading Post....
Homelessness isn’t much of a problem in the little town where I live. We offer few services to the passing-through poor and don’t have a shelter. Although we’re surrounded by thousands of acres of public land, it’s too isolated, too wild up here for a homeless camping crowd that thrives on panhandling and free cheese. Bozeman’s recently completed homeless shelter immediately began attracting a crowd and all 40 beds quickly filled. Not too many years ago there, the homeless, who were then referre...
