    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|May 20, 2020

My how time flies. In a couple of weeks, it will be 50 years since I first arrived in Montana. Shortly after high school graduation, I headed west from my home in southern Indiana after deciding to forego college, and instead, get a job on the Alaska pipeline. I didn’t have enough money to get all the way to Alaska and figured I’d find work along the way. Passing through Billings, four days into the trip, I picked up a newspaper and saw an ad for jobs in Yellowstone Park. Heading south from Bil...

The Dodson graduation was postponed to a later date this summer, so hopefully can have it at that time. Work is being scheduled to begin on the new bus barn to hold the school's new busses. It will be built near the school on the old Chezik property. I understand the planned school reunion has been cancelled---maybe...

  • Malta construction updates with David Veseth May 20, 2020

    May 20, 2020

Next month, around Father's Day, I will be treating Ed Dunham to either lunch, supper, or dessert at Dairy Queen. He has been doing a great job working with the marquee at the Villa Theatre and what I heard is the new marquee will begin being installed on Wednesday, June 20 in Malta. Something I learned this week is that the City of Malta Municipal Pool likely will not open at all this year because of COVID-19. One thing I got watch was help shovel pieces broken pieces of cement out of the pool’s bathhouse. I had fun. If the Malta Public W...

The annual Compton cattle drive from Boulder, MT to Loring has been completed in the modern way by semi trucks with cattle pots! Not as much stress or time or ranch hands needed! The Loring community extends sympathy to the family of Judy Rustad. Judy was a kind person who always had a smile. Also sympathy to the community of Turner on the death of Jim Reed, who owned the garage over there and drove the...

  • Fondly remembering camping trips

    Edward Mangis, PCN Correspondent|May 20, 2020

Twenty-five years is a long time – a quarter of a century! But last fall marked the 25th annual Mike and Ed’s Missouri Breaks Hunting and Fishing Extravaganza. It all started in the fall of 1995 – the year I retired from the U. S. Air Force. Brother-in-law Mike Hughes lived in Glasgow and prevailed upon me to come up from Helena for a hunting expedition that would cover the Breaks and northern Phillips and Valley Counties – plus a stop at several fishing holes along the way. Our non-hunting equi...
