  • Up, up and away

    Mark Hebert, Editor|May 6, 2015

Just seven miles north of Malta, there's a group of young men reaching the stars...almost literally. If you have ever happened to drive north of Malta on Highway 191 on your way to Whitewater, and noticed plumes of dust and motorcycles shooting through the air and ripping around the hills, then you are familiar with the Malta's Outlaw MX. Unofficial leaders at the track are Malta's Shane Carnahan and Travis Rhoads and on Saturday afternoon the two jumped on their bikes and proceeded to fly them...

"The weather is so unpredictable this time of year," said Kay Hould, Phillips County Historical Society President. "When we held it at the H. G....

  • Looking up more often

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|May 6, 2015

I’ll have to start paying better attention. Sports Illustrated shot some of its latest swimsuit issue in Yellowstone National Park. In a couple of photos model Jessica Gomes perches alluringly at the edge of the Grand Canyon with Lower Falls in the background, and in another she poses topless next to Morning Glory Pool. The pictures were taken last summer, but until I received my magazine in the mail, I had no idea SI shot a portion of its iconic issue in the park. I was in Yellowstone last s...

  • New wealth versus old wealth

    May 6, 2015

Dear Editor, I would like people to know where true wealth is generated. It comes from our natural resources. New wealth that is generated daily by common citizens that sustain old (yesterday’s) wealth. Why? Because yesterday’s old wealth is being and has been parted and sold out. What is new wealth? New wealth is a crop of wheat, baby calves, new grass, freshly mined coals, fresh minerals, newly generated electricity, freshly mined metals, upgraded property, newly developed ideas, new batches of logged timber, children conceived and born, con...

  • Thank you, Choteau resident, for enlightening us

    May 6, 2015

Dear Editor, Thank you for the Choteau resident enlightening us with answers to Choteau's health care facilities. When an entity is purchased by a larger company it is a given after a certain time period the purchaser would place their chosen CEO and governing board in place. The local board being kept in place for collection of funds I didn't know about. But being Benefis producers a positive bottom line and that levy is in place by law why would they not do what is necessary to collect those funds? Perhaps the value placed by TMC on their...

  • A short time ago in a living room not far away...

    Mark Hebert, Editor|May 6, 2015

It finally happened! I finally convinced my 12-year-old daughter, Sophia, to sit down and watch Star Wars. She has always shown interest in the franchise, but I have never been able to get her to watch what I consider one of the greatest trilogies ever filmed. I'm nerdy in that way. I have never been much of a Sci-Fi fan and I can't stomach Star Trek, but ever since I was a young tyke, I have been a fan of George Lucas' original three movies. Now I know that there are actually six movies total s...
