    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Apr 15, 2020

Aside from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office and a few in the know, it was a surprise to many when music came bellowing through and off of the buildings on Saturday afternoon…the looks on some of the people’s faces in the Albertsons’ parking included confusion and pleasant surprise, to name just a few. About six hours prior to the music starting, Villa Theatre’s new owner Greg Kirkwood sits in his new office in the theatre’s building (the old H&R Block office). He and his wife, Jan, bought the Villa earlier this year after the couple retired...

Gary Wietz, Dodson Public School Superintendent|Apr 15, 2020

Thank you to all certified staff for your prompt responses to the survey questions and data that we will continue to utilize each week to see what is working well and what adjustments are needed. Two of the crucial areas seem to have gone well according to parent/family and staff feedback received this week. Communication and accessibility to your parents/family were the top priorities in the beginning. It sounds like that went great and that is attributed to every individual staff effort in this. Great job. Continue to listen to your parents...

Sympathy to the Loring Colony on the loss of Paul Hofer. Some family and friends from Canada were unable to attend his services because of the COVID-19 virus. The Colony cooks had prepared for Canadian family and friends to be in attendance at Paul’s services, so they had plenty of leftovers. Hello to Mr. Everett Marks of Saco. • Loring News for April 15, 2020

    Apr 15, 2020

The geese and Sandhills cranes are still flying over on their way north for the summer! The cacophony is a welcome sound! Another sound I love to hear in the mornings is the meadowlark song! And the sassy warning of the Robin! The weather has been all over the place, almost 60 degrees and calm one or two days, then rain and blam! Snowy blizzard with a north wind! Easter Sunday was a total mix! During this time of sequestering I'm happy that the governor declared that the Easter bunny and tooth fairy were essential workers! A lovely surprise...

  • Dodson News for April 15, 2020

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Apr 15, 2020

Everything is still locked down and everyone is staying home and away from contact with other people. There is hardly any traffic on the streets. Hope everyone had a nice Easter, even if it was a lonely one and friends and family had to be greeted by phone. The day itself was strange as we had cold with a wind, then a small snow squall and then sunshine and warmth. In working in our yards we have found new growth in flowers coming under the leaves and debris so nature is trying to tell us...

  • Too close to home of late

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Apr 15, 2020

I’ve been staying close to the house for a few weeks. Too close. Yesterday I found myself out in the garage casting a crankbait at a five-gallon bucket. I’m ready to go fishing. Friends of mine -- fortunate to live where there’s open water -- have been fishing since this all began. They call me from the lake and the river, send me pictures, tell me where they’re headed next. It’s painful. The last fish I caught was through the ice, which until recently was still there. Now it’s finally gon...

  • Weighing my options

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Apr 15, 2020

It took a crisis for us to consider “cutting the cord.” A couple of years ago I was excited about getting cable television because I wanted to watch live sports again. I’m a Chicagoan and have spent most of my life watching Bulls, Bears, and White Sox games. I even watched quite a bit of hockey when the Blackhawks were under former Head Coach Joel Quenneville. I enjoy sports on every level, so watching the local sports teams has kept my mind occupied, but I had missed my Chicago sports teams...
