  • Self-Suffiency Through Home Gardening: Part One

    Kathy Waters, Master Gardener|Apr 12, 2023

During World War I and World War II, farmers were called on to grow crops essential to feeding our troops such as potatoes, corn, wheat and cattle feed. Each person was allotted a specific amount of food, gas, heating oil, shoes, etc., to be sure our troops had what they needed. As a result of this rationing, vegetables were harder to come by. To be sure their families had enough food to eat, people grew their own vegetables and called it their Victory Garden. It seems that things are again...

  • Now it's Spring and the Melt Has Begun

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Apr 12, 2023

Be careful what you wish for. Following years of drought and rapidly declining water levels we finally got a real winter. Now it’s spring and the melt has begun. It looks like we’ll have plenty of water in our bay at Fort Peck Lake once again. Unfortunately, however, I can’t get there. Lat week the north fork of Rock Creek washed out a culvert on the only road leading to our cabin, taking a sizable chunk of road with it. Until the road is fixed or the ice melts there’s no way in or out. While th...

  • Spring Brings Back a Welcome Perspective

    Kari Hould, Karis Quiet Corner|Apr 12, 2023

As I sit here for the first time in several weeks, the world outside is buzzing. Warmer weather has brought a new look as we begin to experience some run off; the creeks are rising, there are robins and meadowlarks blasting new tunes and excitement for spring! There is something about the subtle changes that bring back memories. The first crocus has brightened the bland prairie and an array on newborn baby calves add freshness to the picture. I have yet to hear anyone complaining about the longer days and bright sunshine. You’ll have to go a w...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, April 12, 2023

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Apr 12, 2023

Last year I whined about missing the song of the Meadowlarks, but I didn’t whine this year, because I knew that they would be later! Well, just in time for Easter, I heard the song of the Meadowlark! I have spotted the Slate-sided Junco, chipping sparrows, a gull, a crow, and many hawks! The snow started melting and there is a little water running through my yard! Cindy Clark was host to her family for Easter dinner. I was honored to be included. As I was visiting with Mylee I commented that B...

I know that throughout her childhood, my wife has been there a few times. We have talked about several things that we will see up there, but only one thing really stuck out to me; Chinese Food! Chinese food is a cuisine that I loved growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, but during my college years I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed...

  • 4/20 Day and Youth Marijuana Use

    Jody Boulay, Addicted.org|Apr 12, 2023

Marijuana is legal in Montana for recreational and medical use. 4/20 Day celebrations promote a large and growing business. It has become another opportunity for cannabis companies to promote the industry and its products. In many ways, it is similar to alcohol companies using the Super Bowl or St. Patrick's Day. At one time, 4/20 Day was a counterculture protest. Marijuana legalization undercut this as the business grows, sells, and markets marijuana. Like any other product, it will always...
