  • Wondering About the Weather?

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Mar 22, 2023

Through correspondence with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Glasgow an inquiry was made as to the outlook on the recent weather and what lies ahead. The question posed is in BOLD and the NWS response follows. How does this year compare to precipitation over the last 10 years? From January 1st through March 18th, the amount of precipitation has been much higher than in 2021 and 2022. The graphic below has precipitation in inches on the y-axis, and the year on the x-axis going back to 2013....

  • Salute to the Farmers and Ranchers

    1

While facing all odds, and usually racing against all odds, farming and ranching continues to survive in rural Montana. It is what keeps America going. As it has been said, Americans need a doctor, a lawyer and a dentist every day but we need the farmer and rancher three times a day. This week across the country, Ag Day will be celebrated as an annual event, honoring and recognizing those who put the meal on the table before us. As the backbone for a nation that relies heavily on, for the day-to-day operations across the country, the world...

This Friday, March 24th, the Event Center (aka the Old Armory on Hwy 191 S.) will be the place to be! As the nation recognizes the farmer and ranchers across the prairies and lands from the four corners of the US, Ag Day will be observed and celebrated in Phillips County. Now into the fifth decade of setting aside a day to honor those who till the soil, and work night and day regardless of the weather, the Phillips County CattleWomen work tirelessly to bring the event to our corner of the world. Ag Day has moved around from location to location...

  • The Greatest Place on the Planet?

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Mar 22, 2023

Wow! Another accolade for Bozeman. Now, according to Time.com, it’s one of the greatest places on the planet. That information appeared on my facebook feed -- surprise, surprise -- compliments of a real estate agent. Bozeman, like most every other town in the state, had already been included on a plethora of lists: best mid-size city in the U. S., top ski town in the West, favorite spot for trust-funders to pretend to be locals, etc. And it is a swell place, but greatest on the planet? Why n...

Happy Spring equinox! I spent the weekend in Billings, and I really felt like spring was on the way! There was very little snow to be found. But up here it’s a total white landscape! If we get a slow melt, the water should soak in and provide enough soil moisture to grow the crops! If it melts quickly the ponds would get filled which we need also! Monday morning, I woke up to a very thick fog so according to some people we’ll have a nice rain in 60 days! Or 90 days! A shout-out to Pete Lum...
