Owner and manager, Jim Dumas, opened Hi-Line Packing in Malta in early January of 2020. Since then, he has been growing the company steadily. He now has a crew of 10, most of which started out with zero or very little experience, but he says they have come along very well and are starting to pick up speed. His ultimate goal is to have a crew of a minimum of 15. Right now the company is pushing close to 20 cattle a week through the plant. Marianne Costin passed away Tuesday, March 9th, 2021, surrounded by her family in the Malta Retirement Center ++at the age of 78. Marianne was born September 5th, 1942, in Heilbronn, Germany. She was the last of three children born to Fredrick and Gertrude Scharpf. It was a difficult time during World War II and the depression immediately following shaped Marianne for the rest of her life. Our beloved mother Susan Ann Hofer, age 68, of East Malta H.B. passed away peacefully into the eternal rest with Jesus. Her Journey Began at Grass Range MT. Born May 20 1952 to Rev John and Annie Hofer, she was the oldest of 10 children. Moving to Turner MT, she met and married the love of her life Darius (Clem) Hofer. Malta Public schools held their monthly school board meeting on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. To start the meeting, the board approved the minutes from their regular meeting on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. The Administrative reports were then given. The North Country Lady Mavericks ended the 2021 basketball season as runner-up in the 2021 State C Girls Basketball Tournament at Lockwood High School in Billings, last Saturday, March 13, as the team fell 74-60 to the Fort Benton Lady Longhorns in regulation.
