    Malta’s Thayne Mackey spoke during the public input portion of last week’s Malta Public Schools Board meeting and asked the trustees to consider implementing the BackPack Program which would provide students with ingredients for meals for students to take home, cook, and feed themselves. The program is run through a branch of the Montana Food Bank Network and is currently in use in 40 Montana schools.     Some of the resident rooms at the Hi-Line Retirement Center (HLRC) in Malta haven't seen an update since Jimmy Carter was president, but thanks to a $10,581 donation from the Phillips County Health-Care Foundation, three rooms have been spruced up.     At approximately 1345 hours (1:45 p.m.) on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, a prisoner escaped from the custody of Phillips County Sheriff's Office personnel while in transit from Justice Court to the Phillips County Jail. The prisoner took off running east from the Phillips County Courthouse and headed east on South 3rd Street. He was captured less than 5 minutes later at an apartment two blocks from the Courthouse.     Preparations are being made for a Preschool Screening for children from the ages of birth to 6 years old. Screening tests are not diagnostic. They identify individuals who are suspect and therefore may require a diagnostic follow-up. The DP-3 is used for screening children from birth to two years of age. The DIAL-3 is used for ages 3-6. She was born on January 31, 1927, to Robert and Dora Kirkaldie, south of Dodson, and was one of eight children.
