  • Hauliwood Party Held

    Kari Hould, For the PCN|Jan 26, 2022

And come they did. Friends and family of Lona and Walt Pekovitch gathered Sunday and held a Hauliwood Party (first you choppy de wood and then you "hauly de wood") and gathered, cut, loaded, unloaded, and stacked it again. They did so to help the family out when the time to do things like this gets set on the back burner, as Walt flits between his job with the State Highway Department, and trips to see Lona who has been hospitalized since September in Billings. After four months of being in the...

  • Dodson News for Wednesday, January 26, 2022

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Jan 26, 2022

This week has all been pretty warm for us. It has melted a lot of the snow (and) because of the freezing at night has made some vicious ice, but everyday it melts enough to put some water on top but it is all helping the snow to disappear. The hills and yards are mostly brown now and we can see some of the streets again. Supposed to be a little snow this weekend again, but hopefully, the sun will take care of it again. Sadly, our school has been closed again due to so many testing positive for C...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, January 26, 2022

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Jan 26, 2022

Between the warmer temps and the wind, our snow is mostly gone! Bring on the next storm! The sunsets have been very artistically pleasing! Very colorful! Tina Russell hosted the Loring Woman’s Club on Wednesday. Six ladies attended. Our group is getting smaller. Tina will be moving so she passed the Treasurer's job on to Dixie Stordahl. We all will miss Tina and Charles, but wish them all the best! Our prayers are with John Flansaas, who fell and broke his hip. He is scheduled for a hip replacem...

  • Malta's eponym brought up in a Seattle newspaper on issue of Cannabis

    Jan 26, 2022

Dear Editor, We received a clipping from a Seattle newspaper about "Malta," an island in the Mediterranean Sea, our namesake here in Phillips County from Pat Milne Hitchcock, a 1953 MHS graduate. Her father, C.R.Milne, was a fuel distributor for Standard Oil and Mayor of Malta in the 1960s. The article was about cannabis and its use, which is comparable to our new laws here in Montana. "Malta (the Island) legalized cannabis possession and cultivation in December for personal use by adults, took steps to set up what could become Europe's first...

  • Mixed emotions about extending bird season

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Jan 26, 2022

I have mixed feelings about a recent proposal to extend the upland bird season one more month. While I’d love to keep hunting until the end of January, my wife, I’m sure has other thoughts. The season currently runs from Sept. 1 to Jan. 1. Barb’s fine for the first three months, but after that her patience begins to grow thin. “Is it over yet?” she starts asking. In my defense I list the chores and projects around the house that I had completed during the fall. It’s never a very long list....

  • Excuse me, what year is it again?

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Jan 26, 2022

I never thought I was immune to mistakes. But I sure do despise my own mistakes. So, let me apologize. For the past three weeks, the front pages have been stuck in 2021. Whether it be in a homework assignment in January of 2001, a scripture dissertation in January of 2008, or a PCN in January of 2022, it is a mistake that I make every year. I forget to change the year! And that’s not all! In last week’s sports section, I mistakenly called a freshman a sophomore and a junior a senior. To tho...

Save the date and plan to attend the 6th annual conservation fundraising dinner hosted by the Hi-Line Sportsmen on Saturday evening, Feb. 19 at Glasgow’s St. Raphael’s Parish Center gymnasium. The evening is a celebration of fellowship and our common commitment to improving the wildlife, habitats, and outdoors opportunities across northeastern Montana. It’s also an evening to enjoy a perfectly...

  • Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, January 26, 2022

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Jan 26, 2022

Sympathy to all having plumbing and or water problems. January 15, was Martin Luther King’s birthday. I saw a documentary that said he was the greatest civil rights leader of all times. In Whitewater and most of Montana we do not have any racial prejudice as we do not have any people of color. I do not understand problems they have down south. We are all created equal. Congratulations to all basketball teams. This includes our own Whitewater Penguins / Mavericks. Also shout out to Malta Mustangs...

  • Wrestlers at Chinook Mixer

    Jake French, For the PCN|Jan 26, 2022

This week was a little rough for our group of wrestlers'. We're battling injuries quite a bit. Camryn Mears was out this weekend with an ankle injury, and Kohner Shipman was out with an elbow injury. We also have injuries that the kids are fighting through and wrestling with as well anyways, and I feel those aches and bruises showed through with the results we had this weekend. Hopefully with Harlem being canceled, it will give the wrestlers some time to recover and come out swinging for the...
