Hanging silently, gently moving with the wisp of air moving around as a door opens or the AC or heat start up, are 12 tributes in memory of special individuals within our community. Six of the memorials are in honor of the veterans who have passed away in 2024. This year the names of the members of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary who left us are also remembered. As Claudia Pemberton said, “America without her soldiers would be like God without his angels. We must never forget that “freedom” isn’t “free,” and it is only a gene...

Several people from northern Phillips County were present at the funeral of Kathy Obie in Hardin on Saturday. Rodney and I, Jeanie Green, Pat Anderson, Seth Anderson, the Kenny Clark family, Kyle and Kellie Wasson and Mandy Moore all made the trip! I’m not completely certain that the roads will be better, but this next week quite a few people will be traveling to ball games. On Monday I joined a couple of other residents to celebrate a birthday at the Montana Club. Whatever year you are c...

Many of us are familiar with not having things go the way we planned or hoped for and have learned to be resilient in our efforts, be patient and wait for a message for guidance. That is how the Milk River Gospel Jamboree has looked at the play book lately and took a second look at options. When medical issues arose in the world of John and Suzanne Koss, who are strong supporters and key individuals in the local jamboree, took the upper hand, they had to cancel the fall jamboree and concentrate...
As you may have heard, the 69th session did not get off to a very quick start for the Senate. Within 15 minutes of session start, the Senate voted in an amendment to the rules, which was not popular with the leadership, who subsequently put all work on hold. That amendment clarified what the Executive Review Committee was to be responsible for, and made it so the committee only meets on an on-needed basis. This was due to the fact that up until the amendment, the Executive Review Committee’s purpose had not been defined, at least one I could e...
Lots of folks flee Montana in the winter. Myself included most years. This winter, however, southern Montana just might do. Following 18 years of living in Malta, the weather down here in Livingston feels downright balmy. It’s regularly 10 to 20 degrees warmer than on the Hi-line, and the snow seldom lasts mores than a couple of weeks on the ground. (At least that’s what I tell Barb.) With a population at just under 9,000, Livingston, has two large grocery stores, a slew of restaurants, a twi...
Hey there. Another week into 2025. Trusting all is well in your camp as we peel around the corner, knowing it is 70 some days ‘til spring. The county isn’t without some excitement ~ the sirens go blaring by the office more than one might think is necessary in Mayberry, Montana…however, the sound of a screeching ambulance is one that I could not hear for a long time. Walking my fingers through the archives over the last couple weeks, several things some to mind. First, I am beginning to become a history follower and fan. I find myself looki...

1 yrs ago Jan. 14, 2015 With a notable decline in the cattle feedlots, about 4% from last year, researchers are looking at a method to control FMD (Foot Mouth Disease) outbreaks in various parts of the country. On Saturday, Jan. 11, the American Legion gents again showed that they are a prime and fine group of individuals. They prepared and served prime rib dinner to over 60 individuals, some of whom they served through take-out meals. Bonnie Wiederrick had her hands and heart full for several days while preparing for the dinner and when the grand finale was over, she was a grateful and thankful cook and wife.
