  • Malta's LaFond sets up in Havre

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jan 13, 2016

Like a good neighbor, Tom LaFond is there...he's just not as close as he used to be. On New Year's Day, LaFond, a longtime Malta resident, opened his new State Farm Insurance Agency office in Havre, Mont., after nearly a year's worth of schooling in California and Helena in order to obtain his license. "The schooling was nine months," LaFond said. "I had to pass all of the Montana exams, all six of them ... property, causality, life and health, bank and securities." LaFond, who turned 50 last...

According to an anonymous polling of Malta Merchants last week by the Phillips County News, NRF seemed to know what they were talking about. A total of 10 different Malta stores owners were asked asked to answer the question “for the 2015 holiday shopping season were sales: below average, above average, good, really good or best year ever.” Of...

  • We can only adapt

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Jan 13, 2016

We’ve all heard the talk about building a wall, locking our borders, and keeping them out. Let them in and the world as we know it will be forever changed. They’ll damage property, threaten local residents and spread disease. But then there’s always some liberal sob sister who asks, “Hey, can’t we all learn to live together?” We certainly embraced plenty of immigrants in the past, ring-necked pheasants from Asia, partridge from Eastern Europe, brown trout from across the pond. Times, however, ar...

  • Football rivalries with my sisters

    Brandon Nicholson, Columnist|Jan 13, 2016

Well it has been an interesting weekend in my household. My younger sister Jada happens to be a Bengals fan. I am a diehard Steelers fan. If you don’t already know, Pittsburgh won the AFC Wildcard Playoff game in interesting fashion. With less than 2 minutes left, Cincinnati committed two costly penalties. This put the Steelers in position to kick the game winning field goal in the final seconds of the game. Having lost all hope after the Landry Jones interception. I went absolutely insane as we won the game… I noticed how beautiful rivalries c...

  • Hey there, Chicken Legs

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jan 13, 2016

Last Thursday night, somewhere in between the two channels that showed American Idol, was a channel that premiered a brand new weight loss show. While I used to love the Biggest Loser, I have found myself finally getting annoyed with all the tears and terrible pop songs that come with watching that show. Though I am probably done with The Biggest Loser I am still very much intrigued by weight loss shows and documentaries. That being said it was a surprising to find a show that had an emphasis...
