The Malta M-ettes Cross Country team ran in the 50th Annual Frazer Cross Country Meet on Thursday, September 26, in Frazer. The M-ettes took third place among the five teams present at the event. If there could have been a trophy awarded for the weather, today would have gotten it. With clear, azure blue skies, not a wisp of a breeze, and warm 65 -degree temperatures, it was a picture perfect day for running. The green grass and the golden trees were a pleasing contrast of color. Dotting the sky was an occasional colorful Para-glider soaring above the golf course and Mount Sentinel. The overall winner of the girl’s 3 mile race that was held in Fort Belknap due to the soggy wet conditions of the Harlem golf course was Allie Azure of Poplar who ran over the nice paved course in a time of 20:23. The Malta M-ette cross country team participated at the Golden Eagle Cross Country Meet on Friday, September 14. The meet was held at the Pine Meadows Golf Course. "This is a hilly course" the meet invitation stated. The course surface was mostly grass and mowed wild grass, a surface that isn't as easy to run on as a harder surface such as dirt or gravel roads. Seventy-three runners stood at the starting line on a grassy cactus strewn field looking straight ahead toward the power houses of the Fort Peck Dam waiting for the final command that would propel them forward with the hopes of running swiftly over the 5k course. The meet would take place near the Medicine Bear Complex facility in Poplar. The gun went off and 42 runners took off and made their way around the park and up the hills above Lake Sheloole.
