As the school year draws to a close, RCAN and Phillips County CattleWomen would like to take the opportunity to review and reflect on this past year's Beef Into Schools pilot program. We certainly learned a great deal and are grateful to the community for the support and participation as we navigated a new process. We are also pleased to reflect on a successful trial: Six beef were donated to Malta Public Schools Nutrition Program by local producers, without cost incurred by the school as we...
On August 24th, 2022, the first day of school for Malta students, RCAN and Phillips County CattleWomen delivered the first load of cows to Bear Paw Meats for processing toward the local Beef into Schools initiative. We are really appreciative of our first donors: Kayla and Paul Warren, Salveson Ranch, and Brown Ranch. The Montana Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) followed and took action on over 75 bills, formally supporting 50 and opposing 19 based on MFBF policy. MFBF had a 100% success rate in killing legislation they opposed, protecting agricultural and property rights. Of course, MFBF efforts would have been less successful without the support of active legislators who consistently vote with agriculture’s best interests in min...
Every other year Malta Elementary students attend an unique, hands-on learning experience called Ag Ed Day. The day-long event, organized and hosted by Dave and Yvonne Hinman, Billy Lulloff, and all of the Hinman Angus crew, affords students the opportunity to learn about their community outside of a traditional classroom setting. Educational stations are developed and conducted by volunteers, and while certain stations are staples for the event, such as cow milking and sheep shearing, many station topics or presenters vary, making each Ag Ed...
