The Phillips County Library Storytime children enjoyed a GIANT Map of MT for the end of season finale. Storytime was held every Wednesday at 10:30 am through the school year. Mrs. Osmundsons' Phillips County Library Storytime and Mrs. Houlds' Little Learners Preschool got together last Wednesday and Thursday for Halloween. The costumed children enjoyed monster stories and songs, a spooky interactive sensory wall, an egg carton bat craft, and a color page. The Glasgow York Rite Masons were started in the first part of the 20th century. Due to lack of participation things were quiet for a number of years until Doc Curtis suggested moving the chapter to Malta. With the help of the Grand Chapter of Montana, numerous members of Malta Lodge became members of York Rite. These new members travelled to Lewistown and Great Falls to receive their degrees. September was a busy month for the Malta Sacajawea Chapter #37 Order of Eastern Star. Bessie Mae Waters was honored on her birthday, September 8, with cards, gifts and a visit from five members. Mrs. Waters is our oldest (102) and longest (70+) continuous member in the chapter. That same day Russ and Sarah Osmundson attended the 100th Anniversary of Riverview #80 in Hinsdale. May 2018, The Malta Mason Lodge #57 and Order of Eastern Star Sacajawea Chapter #37 once again placed markers at the Malta Cemetery. The weather cooperated as nine people busily placed close to 100 markers. This has become an annual event of honor for the members to perform. The winner of the Phillips County Library Classic Challenge was Amber Hofer of Loring, Mont. The challenge was open to junior high and high school students and adults and ran from Feb. 1 to Dec. 11, 2017. The Pearls for Precious Angels fundraiser held at the Mint Bar was a joyful event. The fundraiser was to raise enough money to supply both Glasgow and Havre Hospitals with a Cuddle Cot. A Cuddle Cot is a cooling system that preserves stillborn babies (and older children) while their parents grieve. The first week of October is National 4-H week and the Phillips County News was one of the lucky businesses of a delivery of home baked cookies on Thursday, Oct. 5th from the local 4-H. The variety plate was labeled “To Make the Best Better”. Thank you for your support throughout the year. On Thursday, September 7, 2017 Equity Co-op held their 101st annual meeting. Current Store manager Dale Kaasa presented the past manager Mark French with a Ruger American 17 HMR rifle. French served as the manager of Equity Co-op for 18 years and was at the meeting to give his last year report. Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club members spent last Tuesday cutting flowers of their own and from Norma Kelly's and Michelle Rock's gardens. At Dr. Mike Veseth's carport they were busy filling almost sixty vases with fresh cut flowers. The first table was for the water filled vases and flower insertion, the next table was for adding flora and fluff, and the final table held the finished products. Over the Memorial weekend, you may have noticed something new at Malta Cemetery. The local Malta Order of Eastern Star, Sacajawea Chapter #37 placed silver star emblems on the headstones of past woman members. The star emblems were discovered a little worse for wear in the basement of the Malta Masonic Hall. It was unknown to current members when the emblems were last used.
