    The May 30, 2016 Memorial Day was a success in Malta. Three events were held and enjoyed by many with thanks to the American Legion Auxiliary who sponsored the parade and BBQ, the American Legion who cooked for the BBQ, and the American Legion and VFW who sponsored the Veteran's Park Ceremony.     Dave Rummel came to the Phillips County News to share a story that is so fitting for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday. (Rummel told the PCN staff that technically flowers are not to go out in the cemetery until May 26th but he made an exception in this case.) Earl R.   • HLRC and PCH boards to hold joint meetings

    The joint boards of the Hi-Line Retirement Center and the Phillips County Hospital held their first meeting on Monday, March 21st, since the separation of administration. They felt it was necessary to get together for the health care of Phillips County.     The Malta Mason Lodge #57 were a part of a special event at the Hi-Line Retirement Center (HLRC) thanks to a generous donation of a beef by fellow Mason and retired veterinarian Doc Curtis. A cow that Curtis owned had lost her calf last summer and developed a bum leg. Curtis fattened the cow up during the summer and decided to donate the beef to the HLRC.     By January 1, 2017 a Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) will be in place by the FDA for all who handle livestock affecting farm/ranch operations and even showmanship. The FDA is requiring veterinary over sight because our consumers are asking us to. Medically imported ingredients or drugs that cross over to the human side and are used for assuring livestock health fall under a VFD.     Cora Maxie of Malta brought in a 1 1/2 lb Pontiac potato on Sept. 1st. This potato came from one plant along with another potato about the size of a large marble.
