By January 1, 2017 a Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) will be in place by the FDA for all who handle livestock affecting farm/ranch operations and even showmanship. The FDA is requiring veterinary over sight because our consumers are asking us to. Medically imported ingredients or drugs that cross over to the human side and are used for assuring livestock health fall under a VFD. This way the FDA will know that there’s a veterinarian available for follow up if there is an adverse reaction or issue with a particular case. The VFD requirements w...

Talk about a lucky shot! How fortunate Phillips County is to have a Harlequin Books author right here. Barbara Heinlein, aka B.J. Buck is not the first Montana rancher in his family who has ran for a political offic...

Before becoming the Blacktail Ranch it was known as the Rittel Brothers Ranch, run by the four sons of Gus Rittel. They were living out the Montanan way of life raising cattle, sheep, horses, chickens and other animals needed to maintain a working ranc...
There have been some reports of scams created to rip people off, but this local was no fool. Cora Maxie brought in the latest issue of the Reader’s Digest that her husband Jim has been getting for 71 years. His sister, Mary Olson, bought a lifetime subscription for him as a High School Graduation gift in 1944. A lifetime subscription of $25 was considered a lot of money back then. The probable scam is this summer they received two renewal notices! Cora stated, “they weren’t falling for that because then Reader’s Digest would have them hooked...
