  • We kept it simple for the 4th

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jul 8, 2020

Hopefully, everyone had a good Independence Day. Even as a kid, we didn’t make a huge deal of the 4th of July, but one thing was sure; there would be barbeque or grilled meat. Our kids aren’t too big yet, so we keep it simple when we “que”, and this year we bought some baby back ribs. I may or not have sung the Chili’s song, inserting the words “Peezy’s Baby Back Ribs” where Chili’s Baby Back Ribs goes. As far as cooking the ribs went, I tried to ignore them for the most part instead of the ty...

  • Local pitches a shutout

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jul 8, 2020

Dodson's Juliun Benson did something that can't be said of a Phillips County baseball player in a long time; he pitched a 5-0 shutout for the Havre Northstars against Lewistown on Tuesday, June 30. The American Legion baseball season had been canceled for Malta because the team didn't have enough players, but that hasn't stopped Juliun and his older brother Jeramiah from traveling to Havre to play ball. "They are most experienced because they play baseball more than the kids in Malta, but it...

The Malta Barrel Series took a break for the Independence Day weekend but one week prior on Saturday, June 27, over 40 riders competed at the Trafton Rodeo Arena. Though they have had more riders in the past, event coordinator Chrissy McEwen was happy with the turnout. "There were not as many runners as the week before but the ground was great thanks to Jerey (McEwen), and Landon Shettel who watered the arena," C. McEwen said. In every race this past season, the group has been able to pay out...

  • Phillips County has made me proud

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jul 1, 2020

I originally started writing about social media bickering, but I instead thought that maybe I would share a little of what has been on my mind. Take it or leave it. I don’t expect people to have the same opinion that I do, because they haven’t seen life through my eyes. How can you know a problem exists, if you haven’t experienced it? I may have said this before, but I am appreciative of those who have reached out to myself and Susan about current social issues. It has not been easy. Again...

  • Milk River Baseball

    Pierre Bibbs|Jul 1, 2020

  • It's been eight years

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jun 24, 2020

First of all, Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife Susan. Her birthday week always marks a couple of milestones in our lives. First off, on June 21, I moved to Montana as a surprise to Susan. We knew that we would start our life together here, but I moved here months earlier to be with the woman that I love. It has been the greatest eight years of my life. I proposed to my wife one day before her birthday, because I didn’t want her to go into her birthday without knowing that I was 100 percent c...

  • Hopefully some normalcy

    Pierre Bibbs|Jun 17, 2020

I am glad to see that things are getting back to normal. With the potential threat that the COVID-19 virus presented, I understand why precautions were taken throughout the spring and through the early part of the summer, but it is good to see people being active again. I could only hope that the threat has been minimized. At the time that I wrote this, in Montana, there were 561 total cases of COVID-19 since it’s beginning and only 56 active cases, and seven hospitalizations. There were no a...

  • Malta Golf Camp tripled in size for 2020

"It's just good to see kids out here to confirm that golf is not a dying sport," Coach Webb said. "To see that there are kids still interested in golf and that we are able to foster a program." Malta Golf Camp for students in sixth through twelfth...

  • Back on the Keto track

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jun 10, 2020

The fun is over. My wife Susan and I left the Keto Diet a month ago, well I hate to say it but, we are currently back on the diet once again. About a month ago we finally came to a realization that the diet was hard to stay on. In the first nine months or so, we would only have a monthly cheat day. Things were going great. We were both down 70 pounds and then we started to ease up a little bit. A once a month cheat meal became a once a week cheat. And in April we realized that we were cheating...
