Though I have had the same hammer since I was 13 years ago, I am far from a handyman. I do have to say that I have had a streak of fixing things around the house. One wouldn’t think that putting together a kitchen table is hard to do, but I definitely can complicate a simple task. I did get it set up! After I found my rhythm, I was also able to assemble the six chairs that came with it. One month later. As I was putting together the furniture, I wondered what my sons were thinking. I am g...

Lego Camp: According to Anderson, there are only two other kids clubs in the state of Montana that participate in Lego Robotics. "They really like building with Legos," Stannebein said. Malta was not present at the Scobey Swim Meet last weekend, but the team has ten swimmers headed to the Eastern Divisional Swim Meet in Plentywood this week. Coach Messerly believes that the Divisional Meet will be similar to the crowded Glasgow Meet a couple of weeks ago, which hosted over 200 swimmers. Malta has ten swimmers going, including a pair of brothers...
Ever since a windstorm hit the Hi-Line on Tuesday, April 5 and 6, the state of the Phillips County Fair Grandstands has been in question. I know that I am about to jinx it. I know that I should probably just take the win and be quiet about it, but I can’t help myself. I have lived here a while now and I must say that this has been the most pleasant year for a certain pest that I won’t name. Year after year, I have gone outside to set up my sprinklers only to be mobbed by biters. I would swat and stomp every step as I set up irrigation. We wouldn’t have picnics outside due to these buzzing creatures, and a walk around the neigh...
The Malta Swim team overcame a couple of 105-degree days in Glasgow last weekend, including record-breaking 108-degree temps on Sunday, July 17. So, we did a thing the other day…. I’m not talking about marriage. I am talking about something that has been in my life just as long as I have been married. My old couch set. The other day, Susan and I replaced our old couch/love seat set. Honestly, it took me a long time to like that couch. It was not comfortable at first. It did not recline, so the naps were often painful, and sitting on it too long encouraged me to get up and take a lap around the house. I disliked that couch for years, but...

Wednesday, June 21, marked ten years since I moved to the great state of Montana. That same day marked a day that I felt like a real Montanan. On that day, I was tasked with driving to Miles City to pick up our newspaper from the Miles City Star. They have been printing out papers since the press went down at the Havre Daily News. To me, a native Chicagoite, an eight hour round trip drive takes forever! Somewhere along that trip to Miles City, I met road construction and decided to take a...
The Penguin Palace in Whitewater was the site of Coach B's Basketball Academy, a week-long event in which the youth of Phillips County and surrounding towns were able to work on their skills on the court. Since his letter, Murray said that HLRC has started its change from a CMS (Center for Medicare &...

Last week, the Milk River Bambino Baseball league started in Malta. This season, the league is under new leadership, as Kenny Murray, a Malta native, hopes to bring the same passion for the sport that he saw growing up, back to his hometown. Things seem to be off to a solid start. Between T-Ball and Coach Pitch and Little League baseball, the league has had over 100 kids sign up. "This year is really just about getting participation," Murray said. "It's new to Malta right now. I know that Dean...

The 19th Annual Milk River Gospel Jamboree (MRGJ) featured plenty of talent this past weekend, all deserving to tell their own story. They had previously performed at the MRGJ in 2018, and Beth by herself in 2017 as a comedian.
