  • I Think That We Started a New Tradition

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Aug 23, 2023

This past week I was introduced to the Medicine Hat Lodge (MHL). What I didn’t know was that many people around here have experienced this hotel in Southern Alberta, as well as the many water slides in that area. Though my sons seem to be afraid of heights, they had a blast on the two water slides at the MHL. The first day, PJ went on the slides over and over, making a few new friends while doing so. Despite enjoying the smaller slides at other hotels in Canada, Lincoln didn’t get on the wat...

  • The Last Leg of the Trip

    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Aug 16, 2023

The conclusion of my family’s trip to Sweden. I have been on an airplane several times in my life, including a flight to Montana 11 years ago. During my flights years prior to our trip to Sweden, I do not recall being afraid during any point of the flight. This time was different. I had moments of nervousness before the flight, nervousness during the flight, and nervousness during the landing. This was during all five flights. I have no idea what caused this fear. Another weird fear that I h...

  • Why does the P.C. Fair Bring So Much Joy?

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Aug 9, 2023

This week marks my tenth Phillips County Fair. Prior to moving to Malta, I hadn’t experienced a county fair. I love this time of year because it is the highlight for so many in our community. Fair time just feels different than any other time of the year. In nearly every weather situation at the fair, including rain, heat, or clouds of mosquitoes, generally people are happy. There is a legitimate feeling of joy that radiates through the air. Maybe it’s the fair burgers at the 4-H or Boy Scout bo...

  • Experiencing The Food and Birds of Sweden

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Jul 26, 2023

After landing and renting a car in our vacation to Sweden, the first thing we did was eat at a Swedish Fast Food place named Max. Seems fitting given the stereotypes that we as Americans have earned over the years. It doesn’t matter if we are in a recession, or hammered with inflation, we like to eat! Max was pretty good. It was similar to a McDonald’s or Burger King but with way more options. We ate quite a few things in Sweden and I was very impressed with not only their restaurant food but...

  • I Won Against the First Round of Jet Lag...

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Jul 19, 2023

When we landed in Sweden during our family vacation, I felt like a champion! I couldn’t really fall asleep on the plane because of a screaming kid somewhere near us. I can only imagine traveling with a toddler and I definitely have sympathy, but it was hard to catch Zs despite our flight being an overnight event. Susan and the boys handled the flight over the Atlantic Ocean very well, thanks in part to the huge catalog of movies available to us. They had over 150 movie options and 150 tv s...

  • Back Home After A Vacation in Sweden!

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Jul 12, 2023

This is the first thing that I have written since my arrival back from Sweden, and it is safe to say that I am still battling jet lag. A few weeks ago, before my departure, I wrote a column noting some of my own personal struggles with battling through depression and I have received a few letters from readers. I want to say that I appreciate you all reaching out! I hope that it was in some way useful to someone. To those struggling, we need you here and love you. My family’s trip to Europe w...
