At approximately 1345 hours (1:45 p.m.) on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, a prisoner escaped from the custody of Phillips County Sheriff's Office personnel while in transit from Justice Court to the Phillips County Jail. The prisoner took off running east from the Phillips County Courthouse and headed east on South 3rd Street. He was captured less than 5 minutes later at an apartment two blocks from the Courthouse. On Sunday, October 21, the Phillips County Dispatch received a call from a hunter in south Phillips County stating that he had found a deceased male. Undersheriff Bert Peigneux responded to the Nichols Coulee area on the CMR Refuge to investigate.
