The Malta High School Golf Teams had two meets this past week. Golfing in Wolf Point on Thursday, April 29, and in Glasgow on Friday, April 30. On Friday, April 23, the city of Malta got out and about in their cars and let the good times roll! On Saturday, April 17, 2021, the Malta Chamber of Commerce sponsored a day of laser tag at the Malta Pavilion. Bad Bear Laser Tag out of Billings was on hand to orchestrate the fun. On March 31, 2021, Gail Cummings retired from the United States Postal service where she had been a mail carrier for 42 years. She had been through five different Post Masters, a lot of vehicles, and a lot of miles. She has a couple of million mile plaques to prove that. She started carrying the mail in 1979. On Saturday, April 10, a fire broke out next to Highway 2, about five miles west of the county line in Blaine County near White Bear Dam. The BIA(Bureau of Indian Affairs) and Fort Belknap Fire Departments were there on the scene and the Malta Fire Department was called out for support just in case the wind got things out of control. The 21st annual Swishfest was held over the weekend of April 10 and 11. Boys and girls basketball teams between grades 4 through 8 came to compete in Malta's gyms and put their hardcourt talents on display. Each of the winning teams received pullovers. Each team was allotted 30 wristbands for their teams' spectators. This helped to control the amount of people in each of the gyms, and make the transitions between games run smoothly. On Saturday, April 3, the Malta Chamber of Commerce held its annual Chamber Easter Egg Hunt. Sending kids and adults scurrying around town to the participating businesses to find eggs hidden in the stores. The eggs contained coupons from all of the participants for merchandise or prizes that the businesses had gathered for the egg hunters. Two of Malta’s high school basketball players were selected to the class B teams for the Hi-Line Invitational Tournament (H.I.T.), April 2 and 3, at the Havre High School. This was the thirty-fourth time that the tournament, originally founded by Babsie Bishop, has been held, and has featured some of the finest high school players in the state. Last September, the Montana Farm Bureau announced its 'Ag in Color' Drawing Contest for 2021 as part of their Montana Youth Agriculture Literacy program. Phillips County Museum curator, Lori Taylor, said the museum is ready to be open on April 1, 2021. The hours for this year are 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. A small treasure was found in the backyard of a local Malta residents’ house. This person has asked to remain unnamed at this time.
