In June, 2021, TC Energy cancelled its Keystone XL Pipeline project. A decision that was ultimately made in January, once President Joe Biden removed the permit it needed to cross into the U.S. from Canada. TC Energy provided details of its plan in an August 14 document filed in Montana federal court. The council received a visit from Jane Ereaux, a member of the Phillips County Stagecoach Restoration Committee, in which she updated the council on the status of the project. As grain farmers painfully know drought and grasshoppers across the northern and western regions of the United States has hampered small grain production. Specifically, for malt barley, Idaho barley production is forecasted to be down 36% from 2020, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.
