What’s black and red, only has two wheels, and is pulled by hand. The answer is sitting in front of the PC Museum and has been newly refurbished and is looking great! The Phillips County Museum is open Monday through Saturday through the month of December. Come in and visit us! Ted and Norma Kelly stepped through our doors last week with a great bunch of old pictures. One is a picture of what we know today as the “Community Church” though in the picture it has an old I.O.O.F. 1818 sign on the top of the building. Can anyone tell us when it first began to be known as the I.O.O.F. building? Was it built for that purpose? The Enterprise paper, July 15, 1908, had an ad saying “the IOOF meeting would be held...

This week Scott Moran brought over a letter requesting information on a murder in 1920 that took place on a family farm north of Saco. Using our investigative skills and the old Enterprise papers we f...

Disappointment hung over the museum this week as our Quilt presentation had to be cancelled because of illness. Plans are underway to reschedule at a later date so watch for details. New exhibits are showing up throughout the museum as the holidays approach. Imagine our surprise when a local collector brought in a “Tom & Jerry Set” and one of our museum staff had never seen one. In actuality we have three sets on display, a collection of holiday bears, glitzy holiday pins, and several Christmas carolers. The carolers have been extremely sil...
For some it was a necessity, a chore that had to be done each night by lantern light. For others left without husbands or family it was a better choice to make a living than more scandalous options. And for the privileged it was a way to showcase their skills to family and friends. Regardless of the reason the pioneer women of yesterday often found themselves with a needle and thread in their hands. You are invited to the PC Museum for an afternoon presentation that blends history and quilting. The date is Nov 4, time is 2:00 p.m. and...
