  • Pippin Radiothon raises over $20K

    Phillips County residents have once again shown their generosity and love for a friend in need with another amazing KMMR Radiothon, which was held on Friday, November 20. Callers contributed over $20,000 to Chayten Pippin’s medical fund as of the last count. Chayten, 18, was diagnosed with a Desmoplastic Small Round Cell tumor, a very rare cancer that begins with a cell in the pelvis that attaches itself to an organ. There are under 400 known cases.     The Malta VFW Auxiliary, Hi-Line Retirement Center, and the Malta Elementary School paid tribute to some of our county's heroes last week in honor of Veterans Day. Carolyn Schmoeckel of the Malta VFW Auxiliary reports that they served 75 people at the annual Vet's Day Dinner, including 27 Veterans.     Phillips County Health Department reported 15 new cases between Friday, November 13th, and Sunday, November 15th. As of Monday, there are 30 active cases, with 196 cases considered recovered for a total of 230 cases overall. At present, three residents are hospitalized (out of 15 total hospitalizations) and we have lost four Phillips County residents to this virus.     As of November 10, there are 31 active cases in Phillips County with 178 residents considered recovered, for a total of 213 total cases. One person is currently hospitalized, out of 13 hospitalizations overall. We have lost four Phillips County residents to this virus. The staff and residents of the Hi-Line Retirement Center continue to battle the virus.     While the Country continues to see recounts and court battles, Montanans saw a record voter turnout on November 3rd 2020. Out of 752,538 registered voters, 611, 188 citizens exercised their right and responsibility to cast their ballot- a historic 81.22 percent turnout, according to the Montana Secretary of State’s election results website.     What began as stomach cramps and a suspected case of appendicitis turned into every parent's nightmare for Saco’s Chris and Heidi Pippin on October 22nd. By the end of their son, Chayten’s, appointment in Glasgow, they were on their way for testing at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver.     As of Monday, November 2, 2020, The PC Health Department reports 37 active cases of Covid-19 in Phillips County, with 156 total individuals considered to be recovered, and 194 total cases overall. Currently, there are two active hospitalizations. 13 patients have had to be hospitalized since the beginning of the pandemic. Sadly, one county resident has died from the disease.     Ernest Miramon Jr. appeared before Judge Yvonne Laird on Tuesday, October 27th via closed-circuit television and entered a plea of not guilty to two (2) counts of Sexual Assault, a Felony, Inflicts Bodily Injury or Victim is Less than 16, offender, is 3 Years Older.     As of Monday, October 26, The Phillips County Health Department reports two new positive cases of COVID-19 cases in the county. That brings the number of active cases to twenty, and the number of total cases to 163, with 143 recoveries. While 11 patients have previously been hospitalized with the virus, at present there are no active hospitalizations.     As of October 12, 2020, 423 new cases of COVID cases were reported in Montana, bringing the statewide total to 19,125 with a total recovered caseload of 11,481. Currently, 904 Montanans are hospitalized with the virus, and 11,481 patients are considered recovered.     In the United States, only 11 states have made Emergency Medical Services an essential service.
