On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at approximately 2337 hours, Phillips County Sheriff's Office dispatch received a mutual aid request from Blaine County for a vehicle pursuit headed towards Phillips County on US 2. The request stated the suspect vehicle was traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour. The occupants of the vehicle were suspected of transporting drugs. At 8: 30 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, a Malta Elementary School faculty member received an email with a vague message and a threat that a bomb had been placed in the school. The email was immediately reported to the Phillips County Sheriff's Office and the FBI was notified. Sheriff Jerry Lytle and examined the suspicious email. It appeared there were multiple recipients. On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, shortly before 8:00 P.M., the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suicidal male firing a weapon in his residence near the intersection of South 8th Street and Central Avenue in Malta, MT. On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, Donald Haseagle was reported missing from the Fort Belknap Reservation. A search was initiated and continued on the Reservation from that time. On Saturday, April 15, 2023, Haseagle's vehicle was located stuck in the mud on Savoy Road approximately 5 miles west of Dodson, MT. An unplanned inconvenience was experienced by several of our south residents as a small portion of Content Road was temporarily closed yesterday and you folks deserve an explanation. Old, unstable mining explosives were discovered at a residence just south of Malta on US 191.EOD personnel from Malmstrom Air Force Base were called in to destroy the explosives.
