To all the people who have read the Dodson column and helped and encouraged me to continue - thank you. You have been my inspiration and have made me feel good when you said you always read it. I am with my daughter in Choteau now, PO Box 1076, Choteau, MT 59422, or cell phone 406-861-2081, if you would care to drop a line or give me a call. Thank you all for your help and kindness for all of the years I was in Dodson. There are some wonderful people there. I spent my entire life in Phillips...

We have had some sun which has taken away some of the snow, but it is staying cold. We like it better when winter moves in more slowly. It actually got a little muddy in places on Friday for a while. Some cowboys were moving some cattle around on Friday to fresh pasture. Little cool job. Polly Solberg had some therapy on Thursday to "put" her bones back on straight! Hope it works. They have finally been able to burn the dumps a little with the moisture we have had. Good to see the pile get a lit...

I went to Choteau this week with a load of furniture, etc., and found myself snowed and iced in. The first bad storm of the season moved in, and roads were icy and dangerous all over the state. So, I stayed for several days for sunshine and melting roads. It remains cold though. Bill Henry came down to take his mom out to dinner for her birthday along with sister Teri Leys and Harley, Roper, and Asher Leys of Choteau. Thanks to all for the lovely roses, the cards and goodies. Sorry to hear of...

Polly Solberg was among those helping with it. Roger Henry of Indiana was home for a few days helping his mom and Teri Leys of Choteau and Asher and Harley were here enjoying our beautiful colors changing on the trees so fast. The weather is definitely turning to its winter mode and temperatures are getting colder. Wind is expected for a couple of days and then a few warmer days should come in. All are welcome/. Roger Henry of Indiana and Teri Leys, Harley Davidson and Stevie of Choteau were at Dora Henry’s for a few days helping out. Moved a lot of stuff. Even to the dumps. Bill Henry stopped at his mom’s, Dora Henry, on his way home on Thursday. He was pouring cement in Scobey. Polly Solberg went down to watch her...

Our first frost of the fall last week saw a low of 21 degrees on Thursday evening. Several of the days have been quite cool. Polly Solberg attended some of Malta’s sports activities at the golf course on Saturday and attended church at Elim on Sunday. She said she noticed the lower temps. Dora Henry had the company of people looking at her house. Good to see lots of activity at the school at the end of the week as the kids had a meet. The days have been nice for them anyway. Glen Dolphay has b...

The days are certainly getting much shorter and colder. Friday was a nice day followed by cold and windy on Saturday. Sunday was cold and windy, then we had cold rain. The temps are really going down. Polly Solberg and Dora Henry were in Havre on Thursday for medical and other appointments. Not much activity around with the colder weather. The fog was so heavy early Sunday morning that you couldn’t see a block away and then it moved away a little. Soon it came back heavier and thicker than before, I could hardly see my neighbor’s house. By noon the sun was shining, and it looked pretty good out. It was sure damp all day though. Mary and Doug Fauth of Rapid City, S.D., were here to visit for the day. They have been in Great Falls helping an uncle move into a nursing home and are now renovating his house. There was not much tra...

The days are very noticeably shorter now and the trees are getting yellow leaves in places, so it is reminding us that fall is coming. Also, our nights are very cool. It all seemed to happen so quickly that we can hardly keep up. The Kirkaldie brothers pulled up with their racehorses just as we were leaving after lunch the other day, so we were able to see some nice-looking horses. Winner’s even. The kids have been out on the course really working on track. Good luck for a good year. Polly S...

We have been having some pretty good weather-----couple of little showers------a beautiful sunset on Sunday evening. Vicky and her husband were from Novi, MI, Rosalinda and Cristy from the Chicago area and Heather from St. Louis. It is so nice that their friendship has lasted so long, and they stopped on their trip west. Loretta Nordland...

School is in full swing again, so kids are busy. Mac Minugh was in town to visit his kids. The Town had quite a bit of excitement with the bomb scare at the school. We have been having hot days again, but some mornings are downright cool. School has started again so things seem busier, so watch for the young ones while driving in town. Sometimes they forget to look. Thanks to Bonnie again for being out mowing. She is keeping it looking so much better and we all appreciate her doing this. For the first time, I have been bothered by mosquitos while outside working. The last couple of times we have been to the dumps there have been so many bees, and Wham, one...

We received some rain on Sunday so it should spruce it up again for a while. It also cooled it down from the terrible heat we were having and soon we will be wishing for it again. Polly Solberg made it home on Saturday after several days in Billings and Miles City. School starts this week again so kids will be busy. In some places, it started last week. Teri and Asher Leys of Choteau came to visit Dora Henry for a few days and got some fall work done. I wish I had some of his young energy. Get...

We have been having some more hot weather with little rain. We did have a quick shower that gave us a good dunking for just a little while. The Fair has been in full swing, and I have even enjoyed some of the concerts sitting on my back porch. Congratulations to all the ribbons and awards the kids received. They work long and hard with the animals and do a good job. And of course, the Indian Relay Races are always so nice to watch and enjoy. We experienced a short-lived weather disturbance on Sunday with lots of thunder, lightning, and wind but not much rain. We were hoping it would go ahead and rain, the ground top dries out so fast and cracks. As much rain as we were having it is surprising the grass is so dry. Be nice to have all the rain out of its system so as not to disturb the fair. They have really been busy at the Fairgrounds---at the end of the week it will be a beehive of activity. It is supposed to stay terribly hot all...

Lots of smoke in the valley all this week from the Canadian fires. They seem like to be burning forever. We had a couple of good thunderstorms this week and one put down a good lot of water. Heard the Harb community east of Malta really got soaked. All in all, things have been pretty quiet. Vivian Bruckner and her sister-in-law were up to visit Polly Solberg and helped her for the day. Nathan came up and helped trim and take care of the yard. Not too much activity at the fairgrounds yet but...

We haven't had any rain showers for a while, but it has been getting hot in the afternoons. More typical July weather than we have been having. Polly Solberg said her temp read just over 100 today. Summer school is over and so is basketball camp, so things have quieted down again. Now everyone is preparing for the fair. I hope they have a good one we need to start getting back to some more of our normal activities. Jerry and Bonnie keep mowing and working at cleaning up some of the town for the...

Jerry and Bonnie have been very busy mowing with their new mower and the lots around town look so much better for it. Thanks for being so neighborly!!! The community sends condolences to the families of Lanny Wilke and Patty Dolphay in their passing. We are getting just enough rain that everything is staying so nice and green. This makes things grow fast too, especially weeds. Velyma Broadhead and Kay Taylor returned from the wedding and visiting relatives and had an enjoyable time. Virginia Sol...

Several rains have kept it green and nice----things are growing fast--including the weeds. Nice to see several new zero-turn mowers in town and the people that are using them to share and help out neighbors. Velyma Broadhead and Kay Braach returned home on Sunday after visiting relatives and attending some parties and honors for some of Kay's family. It was fun to watch the one new house in Dodson go up so fast----nice to see some more houses coming in. The one downtown that they have been...

It has been warm, and things are growing like mad. It is so nice to see everything so green and all the flowers around. We had a little rain again on Sunday, Father’s Day. Thanks to our wonderful neighbors, Glen and Jerry for their mowing. They are certainly helping to keep everything looking better. Dora Henry was so pleased to have a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and two great-great-granddaughters and a daughter visit her for a short visit this week. All are from Kansas except her d...

Vivian Bruckner took Polly Solberg to Great Falls for medical treatment on Thursday and they spent the night with Sid and Merrimae Solberg. Polly had lots of company on Saturday, as Larry Solberg, Ruby Butterwick, Evan Jones, and Paul Mortenson called on her during the day. Everything is green and grows so fast with all the rains we have been having. That and all the flowers blooming are so nice if only the blooms on the flowers were not destroyed so fast. I have pink and yellow roses and lots...

No writing made it into the paper last week, so we'll start again. The main item last week was the lady attacked by the Pit Bull. Haven’t heard anything but hope she is doing well. Memorial Day has passed one more time. The cemeteries looked good although it looked like there were fewer flowers around as usual. This could have been caused by all the rain showers----we put ours down in the rain! My daughter said she guessed she wouldn't melt. Our condolences to all who have lost loved ones l...

The weather has warmed up so well. It seemed that the trees looked almost dead one day and are now all leafed out and everything is so green. The tulips are drying up already and the iris’ and lilacs are coming out with color. It is wonderful that nature does its own little thing all the time. Dodson celebrated their graduation last week and the rest of the school has another week to go. The community laid three of their long-time residents to rest, with the funerals of Willard Mortenson, R...

Many relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends came from all over on Friday to say goodbye to lifelong resident and farmer, Willard Mortenson. Everyone had something nice to say about him and many stories were told of association with him and what a kind man he was. He will be missed. Although rain seemed to be in the air earlier, it held off and it was a nice day. Just two weeks more of school and summer vacation starts. Everyone is busy and looking forward to it. Work has been going on a...
