The weather has certainly changed to its fall mode. Temperatures are down and we are continuing to get little rain showers. So far, we have not had a hard frost, and today I was standing looking out my kitchen window and the yellow leaves were gently falling and blowing across the lawn. Polly Solberg returned home on Sunday after helping son Nathan move to Miles City. Tammy Voise and Dora Henry attended the last performance of the year of Almost Maine at the Fort Peck Theater. Roger, Jackie and Dora Henry were in Choteau one day visiting the Aaron Leys family and Teri Leys. Polly Solberg is still in Ismay helping son Nathan prepare to move. We have been having some very hot days already but on Thursday we had a quick moving thunder-storm and hard rain in the afternoon. It just poured for a short time, water everywhere when it was done. Since Terri and Wink were going to stay for several days in Billings Dora Henry's daughter Cheryl brought her home and helped her decorate the family graves in the Malta Cemetery. She also helped Dora with some small projects before returning to Billings. Terri Cole runs in the Montana Women's Run held in Billings every year and won first place in her age division. Terri said there are about 7,500 women who run every year. There were walks for Missing or Abused Indigenous Women (mostly Native American) in Dodson and Malta on Saturday. Terri Cole walked in both and Kathleen Hughs participated in the Dodson walk which was made up of about 50 people from young people to adults. It was good if a slightly windy day. We have exchanged all the snow we had for bare ground and lots of water in the outlying areas. Dodson itself is getting quite dry, it is surprising how fast the snow disappeared with a few warm days with the sun and wind. The river is full and over its banks in places, and Harlem and Chinook are flooding or surrounded by water. Dodson Creek is backing up toward Dodson as the river is too full to take it. Water was going over Highway 2 near the Old Pink Church on the reservation for several days...
It is so nice to start seeing bare ground. The snow is settling and melting every day but it is supposed to get a little colder again and possibly rain. Up North, people are all saying roads are terrible —the large stacks of snow on each side of the road are melting so the middle is just like a river as they hold the water in. Starting to see a few birds in the sky and trees again. It's so wonderful to see bare ground again in places. Easter dinner was served at the Wapatau Center on Wednesday. The memorial for Bob Voice was held Saturday, March 3, at the Dodson School with a varied gathering of many old friends and associates attending.
