We have been experiencing smaller snow showers and cold for quite a while. Wednesday morning started out clear and looking like a good day, just before noon it started to snow hard from the east with a good wind behind it. In a short time, it was a whiteout and hard to see. It looked like it was going to stay but by 2 p.m. it quit and was actually a good day except hard to see in the all-white. It continues to be in the single digits below at night and only in the 20s and 30s during the day....

It snowed and turned cold again on Tuesday evening, altho all around us got more snow than we did. Thank heaven for that. Almost all roads across the state were reporting snow pack and ice. Hope it all clears up before Thanksgiving. It was reported former resident Mitzi Munsinger had had bad breathing problems while visiting her mother in Great Falls, but after treatment was doing better. The school served a very good dinner for the community on November 14 from 11:00 to 1:00. It was all very delicious and teachers, students from certain classes and other older students helped and served the senior citizens and other grown-ups who attended. There was entertainment from the students who sang for the company. Dinner consisted of potatoes and gravy, turkey, green bean casserole, salad, sweet potatoes, and rolls. It snowed a wet snow on Tuesday afternoon, giving the ground a good cover and about one-inch precipitation. Very cold Wednesday and it stayed this way all week. There were not many people out for lunch at the Whapatu Center this week. Cold and bad roads. Richard Gilmore had to go to Billings for medical treatment again this week. Turned very cold and of course the wind blew making it seem colder all week. Daylight savings time ended Sunday, clocks were set back one hour. Snowed a wet snow with big flakes starting about noon on Wednesday. Was all melted by Thursday leaving it just muddy and wet for trick or treaters on Halloween. Cold temperatures pushed by winds were present in our community again for most of the week and the weekend. Other places like Billings received several inches of new snow, Helena and places west received inches of new snow and were again cold. Brrrr……... The county crew has been busy rebuilding the bridge across the canal in town and the culverts for the Dodson Creek drainage. Terri Cole went to Helena for the weekend to visit daughters Melinda and Mary and their families. While there she visited former Malta residents, Larry and Mary Putnam who treated her to lunch. We have had more snow, wind and low temperatures all week. Winter seems to have moved its agenda up earlier. Our snow was very wet, mixed with rain so we did not have much cover on the ground. Night temperatures are very low, we have had heavy frost a couple of mornings. This weather has been a surprise, moving in so early and staying. Condolences are sent to the family of Doreen Dale in her passing. She was known and liked by many. Unseasonal wet and cold weather continues to plague us and it looks like we are not going to see any hoped for Indian summer days. The wind blows every day and the continued wet makes it seem colder. Friday heralded the first winter storm for this fall and it proved to be a quite severe one. Dodson received lots of wind and rain and wet snow mixed into the rain but other places in the state were hit hard and had accumulations of snow. On Sunday afternoon the snow did turn to large dryer flakes and covered the ground lightly for a little while. Other places had an accumulation of snow that stayed. Get well wishes to Dolores Shettel and Willard Mortenson who were not feeling well. Dean and Carol Kienenberger were back after visiting many relatives and friends. Edward and Polly Solberg were in Havre to start the process to have Edward's cataracts removed. Tom Appelhans, who grew up in Dodson, was here with his wife, Roberta (Simpson) from Kent Washington for her 60th High School reunion and was around visiting old friends. Terri Cole is doctoring in Billings for her foot problem and other medical issues. She still must wear the "boot' and does not seem to be improving. Fall is definitely moving in with the cooler temperatures and changing colors in the trees and plants. The rains that always seem to come at harvest time are here also. There were quite a few people who attended the graveside services for Merle Kaasa on Tuesday afternoon. It was a very touching service and lunch was served by the Lutheran and Catholic ladies at the Lutheran Church following the service. Sympathy to all the family and friends. Dora Henry and Barb Tremblay were in Havre to have her eyes checked on Friday. They enjoyed lunch with Bill and Marilyn Henry while there. Bonnie Lankford was at Dora Henry's and got some garden stuff while there. It rained again quite hard on Friday night making it very wet on Saturday morning. Last weekend Kelly and Seth Radtke and their three children, Kaida, Sylvie, and Corbin visited Wink and Terri Cole and took in the fair. Seth also painted their basement while they were here. Another successful fair has come and gone--quite well attended and enjoyed in spite of the very hot temperatures during the days. Thanks to all who worked hard and helped make it a success. The kids in 4H worked hard with their animals and did a good job. It was sad to hear Bill Johnson of Arizona had died this week. Bill grew up in Dodson and attended school here, graduating in 1965. Willard Mortenson's family, daughter Diana, husband, and two grandchildren came to spend the day with Willard to help celebrate his 90th birthday on Sunday. They brought a cake and several neighbors from the north country came to help celebrate Willard's day after church. Edward and Polly Solberg are having several windows replaced in their house. Many Solberg's returned for another funeral with the passing of Selma Miller. Condolences are sent to all the Solberg family, relatives, and friends. Selma's daughters Esther and Mary Lynn stayed with Polly and Edward Solberg as did their son Nathan who came from Miles City. Tim Solberg and daughter Amanda of Billings also came for the funeral. A large gathering of relatives and friends came together for the placing of the ashes of Kimberly Solberg Adkins at a graveside service on Sunday afternoon at the Dodson Cemetery. Actual funeral services were held in Great Falls on Friday and quite a few of the Solberg were able to attend them too, including Polly Solberg. We always feel so bad when we lose someone so young. The community was saddened to hear life long resident, Herman Dolphay had passed away on Friday, June 28th in Havre. Condolences are sent to the extended Dolphay families. Herman would have been 99 in October — he lived a long and productive life.
