The birds were really gathering and now there doesn't seem to be so many around so they must have moved south. This has been such fall weather lately----first roasting us out, then cold. The nights have been really cold but not quite frost yet--it's coming though. Some of the smoke and haze from the fires have finally reached here--some said it is noticeable on the highway in the morning. High winds and rain in the southern part of the state have helped to move it out. This last week has seen th...

The weather has been very hot all week with quite chilly nights. Everything is getting very dry---the gardens need watering more often again. They are getting harvested slowly tho so will not need it much longer. There has been one case of COVID 19 tested positive in Dodson now. Dolores Shettel stopped at Dora Henry's to visit for a short time this week. The school had the two wooden storage sheds next to the track torn down and hauled away this week. Looks sort of bare there now. Time is...

Things are still pretty quiet around town — they had a meeting and decided to start school the day after Labor Day so should be some activity around then. Sorry to read of all the COVID-19 cases in Phillips County when we were one of the few counties that did not have any reported cases. Get well wishes are sent to the people that tested positive for it and I hope there will not be many more cases showing up. Velma Broadhead returned home after visiting in Joliet. Roger Henry and wife Jackie o...

We had about a week of very hot weather but it has cooled down some but we have not had rain. The nights are getting quite cold and feeling like fall. Grasshoppers are a problem in part of the county, hard on some of the crops and hay that has been cut. So far our yards have not suffered heavily. Sympathy is extended to all those who have been stricken with the COVID 19 virus. We hope more people keep recovering from it and it does not spread heavily in Phillips County or anywhere else in...

We have been experiencing some very hot weather and the weather map looks like it is to continue for at least another week. We did have a little rain last Thursday that cooled it for a very short time. People from away from here had asked about grasshoppers as they have been bad in some places. I had not noticed many here but yesterday while picking raspberries I found lots in the bushes. Hope they do not get too bad before harvests are done. Velyma Broadhead and Dora picked raspberries and...

Tim and Heidi Solberg and two children and Nathan Solberg were here this week to help their mother with things. They were in church with Polly on Sunday. Condolences are also sent to the family of the former Misty Munsinger in her passing. The many little showers we have been having over the past week have really been keeping things green. Well the time for schools to start on their summer vacations is here and most of the schools were already closed because of the Coronavirus, so everyone was more or less prepared. The Dodson graduation was postponed to a later date this summer, so hopefully can have it at that time. Work is being scheduled to begin on the new bus barn to hold the school's new busses. It will be built near the school on the old Chezik property. I understand the planned school reunion has been cancelled---maybe...

We have been really been enjoying some warm spring days although the wind always seems to blow every day. We have always had a lot of wind but not every day! Every thing is still very quiet around town as all seem to be still being very careful and isolating themselves even if some places are opening up a little again. Terri Cole has been delivering lunches from the center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and has made several trips to Malta for things. Polly Solberg is still helping at Eva Bruckners i...

Everything is still very quiet around Dodson as people are obeying the stay home edict. The weather has been warmer all week and is forecasted warmer for the next week and it is nice to see the lawns turning greener every day. Some gardens are starting to be planted and more flowers are showing through. We trimmed plum trees and there were a lot of buds so there should be blossoms soon. We see more birds every day and a lot of them are robins, and grackles (who are not quite so welcome). Get...

Everything is still locked down and everyone is staying home and away from contact with other people. There is hardly any traffic on the streets. Hope everyone had a nice Easter, even if it was a lonely one and friends and family had to be greeted by phone. The day itself was strange as we had cold with a wind, then a small snow squall and then sunshine and warmth. In working in our yards we have found new growth in flowers coming under the leaves and debris so nature is trying to tell us...

There was an open town meeting held on Monday evening on the work that is needed to be done on the town's sewer lagoon. Representatives from Great West Engineering and Bear Paw explained the impact as we are in the 100-year floodplain and/or wet-land. We have been experiencing warm temperatures and sun in the afternoons that have really been taking the snow away. Some nights are still pretty cool and we are hoping for no more snow. Last week I had several Blue Jays in my pine trees and they stayed for several days. I usually don't get more than one or two at a time. I have not seen hardly any small birds all winter, but my son told me after I saw the Jays the little ones would come. They did and today I had quite a collection in the trees....

After several days of slight melting and thawing it turned cold again on Saturday night so when we woke up on Sunday morning, after a light rain, it was very slick and hard to walk. It was rough from the melting and easy to slip everywhere. This week is supposed to be warm again so maybe we can get rid of some more of the snow. Gwen Ereaux fell at her home and broke her leg badly in at least three places. Get well wishes are sent to Gwen as she recuperates. The kids played some hard-fought...

Dora Henry attended a COA meeting in Malta on Wednesday. A good lunch was served out at the Wathatu Center on Wednesday, but the sad news is, Kay announced she is ready to retire. It turned colder on Sunday and was snowing for half the day. Here again, the bad news is it's supposed to keep getting worse. Tuesday has b...
