Sympathy to immigrant children new to the U.S. Were number 1! Is a chant by the Whitewater Penguins and North Country Lady Mavericks! Congratulations to the boys team and all PC teams also to a great season of basketball. Many family, friends, and fans went to tournaments in Billings. It is great North Country is well supported. I listened to some games on KMMR Radio. It is great the radio offers that service. Back to Whitewater area. Many ranchers are calving. Some ranchers including the...
The weather has warmed up considerably and we have enjoyed the sunshine for the last few days. There has been some wind but not hard and all of our snow has disappeared. The boys played their last game of the tournament on Saturday but unfortunately after a fast played game in the first half in which they were leading they lost the game in the final score. Great playing ---you did good boys. Congratulations to all having a birthday or anniversary this Week. Have a good one. Polly Solberg had...
The weather is trying to warm up a little---we need it to keep moving in the right direction. While in Laurel this week for a funeral there was quite a difference in weather, from being quite nice to a thick snowstorm on Saturday, depositing 2 to 3 inches of new snow and cold winds again. When we came home on Sunday, by the time we reached Billings and the rest of the way home, roads were dry. The sun was shining but of course, there were the winds and quite hard ones. On Saturday there was a...
The weather has continued to be very cold, but finally, the last two days are showing some relief. Today was warm and windy, it took a lot of snow off, and tonight at 10:00 PM it is 41 degrees above. Unbelievable! The 3C District Basketball Tournament was this week and the results were good and bad. The girls lost out in their games, sorry girls, we know you played hard. The boys lost some but beat Nashua and Lustre Christian to earn third place and will go play in the Eastern C Divisional...
If we thought we were bad off with the Covid 19 and subsequent isolation, who would have dreamed we would experience 30 to 40 degrees below and up to 50 degrees and beyond below wind chill in the middle of February? And it to stay for so long. First, it seemed to be centered in Montana but now is covering most of our United States. Here, we have already had a good week of below zero---the worst and lowest temperatures this last weekend----Valentine's Day included. Hopefully the worst cold is...
If we thought it was cold before, we were in for a big surprise. It is cold----all over Montana and it's February!!! Our thoughts should be looking forward to sunshine and warmer temps, at least in the daytime. Ranchers are looking at newborn's and this is no weather for them. Hopefully after this week we will see brighter days. This 20 to 40 degrees below is not good for old bones! And still below zero in the daytime ! Remember, this next Sunday is Valentine's Day---remember your sweetie! The...
This whole week has been colder and unsettling. Hope as we move into February and "see' the groundhog we are not in for a lot more winter. Polly Solberg, Terri Cole and Veylma Broadhead have been around delivering lunches ,etc. Heard they were sanitizing the school after finding so many positive tests and the lunches will be sent in from the Whapatu Center for the time being. I received a call that Cleo Link, age 92, of Springfield, Missouri, had passed away. His parents were Bert and Marian...
Colder is the norm for the last few days but at least we have not had any more severe winds. Terri Cole was in Billings to have her heart checked out. She returned home on Friday. Polly Solberg has sent a flock of her Jays up to this end of town and she could really have them back. Dora Henry was in Malta attending a COA meeting, getting her Covid shot, and attending to other business. Velyma Broadhead returned home and is driving a very pretty new Blue SUV. Congratulations to the basketball...
This new year of 2021 has started out with a bang. First the Covid---then the riots against our Democracy---and last Wednesday when we had such terrible winds, all over the state. Damage was great in some places; damage of overturned semi's, etc. It is good that we do ,not have such weather too often here as they do in some places. There will be a lot of roofers busy when the weather warms up enough to replace roofs. Terri and Wink Cole had family home this week. Polly Solberg returned home...
Terri Cole was in Malta on Wednesday on business. Polly Solberg returned home when her brother, Bert, took a slight turn better. On Thursday she received the news that Bert had passed away. We have had warm enough temperatures and wind to take a lot of our snow away. The last of the week we have had heavy frost, making the trees, all pretty and white but turning it colder again. We'll be looking for it to be warmer again. Our country hit a hard low blow on its honor last Wednesday when the...
This week has been like a yoyo with the temps going up and down. Sunday was about the warmest, with it making it to the very high 40s and the wind blowing so water was every where and the snow disappeared so much. Not too bad of weather for January. Polly Solberg was called to Great Falls to be with her brother, Bert, who was not doing well. Our hearts and prayers go with her. Polly celebrated another birthday on Sunday January 3rd. Congrats Polly!! I don't see as many birds as I used to any...
Well, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed the company of family and friends. Christmas day turned out to be a very nice day. Thursday and into Saturday turned a little cooler and we had a light covering of new snow, but by Saturday I believe we had gained a whole minute of daylight back, so we are headed in the right direction. It just takes a little patience. Polly Solberg rode to Three Forks with Bob and Sue Kuluza, where she was picked up by her son, Nathan. She was able to spen...
We are seeing a little more ground all this week and the temperatures have been a bit better. On Sunday we had wind, then sunshine with the temps in the high 40s and no wind, and then a small rain storm. If you don't like the weather, just wait, you may get what you want. Polly Solberg and Dora Henry were in Havre on Wednesday and their snow is all gone. All bare hills and yards. The new highway is nice to drive on though. The Catholic ladies were out on Sunday delivering a container of goodies...
Due to the Covid 19 and the extreme cold weather we have been having things are pretty well at a stand still. We had a beautiful sunset clear across the western sky on Wednesday the 9th of Dec. The sun is still so low in the sky that we had all colors available but as everyday when it starts to get dark it gets there fast so it did not last long. Friday was very cold and icy--overcast---really dreary. It has stayed cold for several days with a low 11 degrees on Sunday morning. Only eight days...
Greetings and hoping everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving with friends and family. Wink and Terri Cole had Thanksgiving with the Steve Cole family in Malta. Polly Solberg celebrated the Thanksgiving Day in Malta with Orvin and Thea Solberg and extended members of their family. Velyma Broadhead hosted Thanksgiving for family members Ava, Pete and Kay. Dora Henry's son, Bill, came from Havre to get her, so Dora spent several days in Havre with them. It was cold and a little windy but the roads were...
Some of Helen Vogel's kids were home for a few days and helped her out with a few chores. They went home on Thursday. Terri Cole attended a transit meeting in Malta on Wednesday. The community sends condolences to the family of Virginia Koss. She is remembered by all her work with 4-H and co-managing the 4-H concession at the Fair. Condolences are also sent to the family of Dr. Michael Veseth. He practiced dentistry in Malta for many years and treated many people in the community. Dora Henry...
Winter has stayed in solid and we have lots of snow. This last time it blew hard while snowing and after so it is very drifted, piles in some places and bare ground in some places. It also stays very cold so the snow must be holding it. We still have another month before it is winter. There were no lunches served on Wednesday as it was Veterans Day, a holiday. Some of the students under the direction of Mr. Rod Donahue, one of the instructors, distributed a care package to members of the...
We are looking at a new look of winter again and it, is not a good one. It turned very cold again on Saturday night and started snowing in the night, snowed all day Sunday and was foggy with the wind blowing again. They predicted an accumulation of up to nine inches and I'm sure it has already reached that. Spring cannot come soon enough. Steve Cole was up to see parents Wink and Terri Cole this week. Sharon Goodrich of Hogeland stopped to see Polly Solberg on Wednesday. Joel and Wesley Olson...
Daylight savings time ended on Sunday November 1st so hope everyone remembered to set their clocks back one hour . Confusing sometimes. The weather has remained strange with a combination of cold (very cold) nights but some sunshine in the afternoons to melt all of our snow off for now. Maybe we can have enough warmer weather yet to finish some of the fall chores. Some trees have not shed their leaves yet. They too were caught unawares. Between the colder weather and the Covid 19 things have...
The weather has been cold all week and seems like it is to stay that way for several more days at least. At least we have not had the snow they have had around Billings and the lower part of the state. The ground was white with the frost the one morning and it was said to be 20 degrees this morning. Things have been very quiet around town. Bonnie Lankford and her crew came up and did a couple of little favors for Dora which was very appreciated. Nathan Solberg was home visiting his Mom, Polly...
The dreaded Covid 19 is still staying around and active. Hope it will run its course pretty soon and we can get some more normal living again. More cases are being reported every day. We are sorry for those that have tested positive and hope their cases are not too severe. Ava Welch was up working on her yard and house. She helped Dora pick up leaves at her house. We, in our family, were saddened to hear M.G."Shorty" Henry of Augusta had passed away this week. He is the last sibling of the 14...
It is showing more of fall every day, leaves are falling and we are having colder nights with some frost again. The Foote's, who have purchased the old drugstore are leaving Friday for the winter. They will return in the spring. The Catholic ladies had a small showing at their breakfast and bake sale but everyone enjoyed it and they sold a lot of tickets on their raffle. It was too bad that their ham dinner could not be had because of the COVID 19. Skip Cole won the raffle basket, with Megan...
Another week has passed and it has certainly been fall weather. The winds have blown hard and the leaves have suddenly turned golden and the wind is doing a good job of blowing them off and all over. The COVID scare is around, some make it a small thing but then we look at the reports of all the new cases all over the state we have to take it seriously. It is too bad that it has closed so many places so there is hardly any social life anymore and certainly not as we all knew it before. Schools...
We had good rain on Saturday night, water everywhere but the wind blew all day so it is already starting to dry out again. It is surprisingly dry on top, we could use some more rain. Sympathy is extended to all the people in the state that has had the heavy smoke from the California and Oregon fires. But imagine what the people in California and Oregon are suffering from that heavy smoke day after day! The hard winds over the lower part of the state on Saturday and Sunday have moved a lot of...
Another Labor Day has come and gone, bringing with it some very different weather, rain, and much colder weather, especially at night. A very hard frost on Labor Day put an end to the gardens, everyone has been busy taking everything in and cleaning up the yards. The fires in California and Oregon are still burning and they say the smoke in those States is terrible, some of it is creeping into Montana in places and different people said they could smell it and it was bothering people with...
