The Loring Woman's club Dance will go in the history books as the first one that the electricity went out for four hours and we kept the party rockin'! A huge storm blew through about 8:30, lots of lightning and thunder, wind, hail and rain! Close to 9 the power went out! My sunflowers have started opening! It is so fun to see the different colors and designs in the combination pack that Tom planted! Our prayers and sympathy are with the folks of Orlando, Fla., after the horrendous shooting that happened there last week. Also our own state has had some difficult weather events this month that has left the people in its wake in dire straits. So far we along the Canadian border have escaped the wrath! Whitewater High School Graduation Friends and relatives flooded into the WHS gymnasium from all over the United States to celebrate with the graduating class of six. Of the six only two were born and raised in Whitewater, Tatum Moore and Layne Engel, but some of their relatives live in North Dakota and way over on the west side of Montana. You have never seen orange until you have seen an oriole fly into your trees! There is nothing like the orange with the black setting it off! I put my grape jelly feeders out right away! We received a fantastic amount of rain and snow on Monday and Tuesday. Some reports are over 5 inches, but we had nearly 2 inches right here in Loring! Summer hit this week! Our temps were in the high 80's for a couple of days! The grass has greened up, flowers are blooming on the prairies, the birds are singing, and the winds were calm for part of the week! The green grass that has appeared after spring rain is indescribable! We've had a bit of a competition going on up here to see who sees the first yellow (canary) warbler or the first goldfinch. Last week we had some record high temps, but as I write this the rain has been falling for six hours interspersed with snow, sleet and snow balls! We are so thankful for the moisture! Oh my, spring is definitely here in north Phillips County, especially after that awesome rain on Friday! Most of the reports are over an inch of moisture! I spotted three bluebirds on Sunday! I also saw a snowy owl the same day! I thought they had left for their mating ground long ago! I was able to pick some yellow bells and some crocuses this week, too! We are hitting the end of March and my tulips are up, not blooming but they are up! Sorry that I missed last week, but I had lots of friends and relatives distracting me. Many were here to bid my mother farewell! A celebration of Barbara Cowan' s life was held at the family farm last Sunday. David Stordahl smoked pork butt and ribs, for the celebration. I do declare! I have never had so many insects on my windshield in March before! It sounded like a rainstorm except the sky was clear!
