Another one of our Loringites has gone on to eternal life. Marion Matthews died on October 4. I think it has been about 3 weeks since Hurricane Maria hit the Country of Dominica where Jeff and Athlene Murdock live. Jeff grew up in Whitewater, went to the Peace Corps when he graduated from college and has lived in Dominica for several years now. When he was able to call his family back in Whitewater he reported that they were alive but they were not ok. Hello, Fall! You certainly came in with a vengeance, but we had such an extreme summer, your cooler temps are certainly a welcome relief! Last week of summer, and what a summer we had! But now with the cooler temps and even a bit of rain, the heat seems to be in the past, for now. The Great Plains Dinosaur Museum has had a great 2017 season with a record number of Junior Paleontologist Programs, great participation in the adult dig programs, and approximately 20-percent more visitors through the gallery. Only 7% said they were on the Montana Dinosaur Trail but we did sell 14 Passport books. Fifty percent of our visitors were from Montana. Even though the solar eclipse was less than stellar due to the cloud cover, we were able to get several glimpses over the lunch hour. Sports have kicked in now with the first volleyball invitational tournament in Malta this last weekend, And the blue and white scrimmage on Friday evening. I'm so sorry that I missed writing the news last week. I was at a family reunion in Kalispell area. It was smoky over there until Sunday night and Monday but we still had a great time! The temperatures are the main subject around this area! On Sunday, it reached 107 degrees, too hot for this ice cube! The Sunday Fun Day at Loring was a huge success! The water slides were very popular with both the toddlers and older kids. And eventually, when the parents and grandparents were significantly cooked, they joined in the water fun also! What a day! I've been watching a family of Hungarian partridges every morning come through the yard! I'm happy to announce that they are still all alive! Ten babies! The month of June is zipping by! The first week of summer has been a bit cool and windy. Still no rain, which we desperately need! The ditches are being swathed and baled as is the other hay.
